Hi there

There is no concrete date on this panel.

OcUK has the first order on with Samsung UK, so we get the first stock they get simple as. They keep giving dates and then put it back, so were no longer displaying an ETA. The latest they feedback to ourselves now is to expect the stock too arrive mid July. We shall have to wait and see.

I know the place you are talking about and they have been putting the date back constantly despite it being a "confirmed" date.

Given the price on it I would give it a miss and go straight for the 2407, only a bi more money and a miles better screen.

Yeah thats what samsung told me, but they did say it was definate  i thought it might be as you would get stock before them anyway. :(

The thing is it's not like OCUK are going to be the only one getting stock even if they got there order in first, Samsung will be getting quite literally thousands of these things all on the same boat, so you can pretty much guarantee that everyone else will get ther stock at the same time. Unless OCUK decided to buy lets say 8000-10,000 of them which I highly doubt.

Oh and before everyone doubts me, when the LG 226WTQ came out same thing happened the date kept getting put back, and put back until everyone got them at the same time, in fact the place that are quoting 20/07/2007 got 450 in one shipment, and that date was given only 6 days before the stock arrived.

I'd say don't bother Pre-Ordering and just wait till they come into stock and get it from the first place you see it with a good price, using a shopping comarison site shows this not yet available at £347.80 - 409.22 inc. VAT so there is a big price variance also.

Would it actually make a difference to me though, i would use it for games, films, tv, and general internet. No photo editing etc, so is it worth the extra money?
Yes definitely. If you've never used a TN panel, not only are the colours not as good as PVA (TN is only 6 bits per colour, PVA is 8), but the vertical viewing angles mean that there's a colour gradient from the top to the bottom of the screen on what should be the same colour. Take the blue background on these forums, when I used to own a TN panel, it was really obvious that the blue background was noticeably darker at the top of the screen than at the bottom, and the bottom of the screen looked a little pale and faded. Because of this I found myself constantly wanting to adjust the screen tilt, and you can see the colours shift every time you head moves up and down even an inch. I think a lot of people don't realize just how bad TN viewing angles are, especially vertically. With the 2407WFP at £422 at the moment, it's easily worth the extra £35 over the SM245b. £387 is a lot to spend on a monitor with the weakness I've described IMO.

Hi there

Incorrect, Samsung will only be getting about 500 for the whole of Europe and were guaranteed to get 200 of that allocation. That means the rest will most likely not see the UK but end up in Europe or at retail shops and not online.

Look at our performance with the 226BW, OcUK has shipped 2500 pieces from our warehouse wheras our competitors are still in 3 figures and some only double figures. OcUK get a bigger share because we purchase better. :)

What we can't help is Samsung very poor ETA's are new arriving stock, they must just pick dates from the air and believe you me we have shouted, screamed and pulled hair many times at them.

Well if you are so certain I think you should give me one for free if anyone else in the UK e-tail has stock at the time or before you. :D

Thanks for the info Gibbo :)

As the eta of these monitors is not set in stone, is the same true with regards to the price? as there is some disparity when looking at the pricing of the various etailers with this monitor listed

Does anybody know what if any difference there is between the 245bw (US version) and the 245b (European version)? Correct me if I’m wrong but with the 226 there were not separate b + bw versions?

Clearly Samsung are having supply issues, in this review (of the bw US version) http://www.overclockersonline.net/?page=articles&num=1171&pnum=7
The reviewer said he had the monitor for nearly two months, The 245bw is already on sale in the US

AU Optronics (of the 226bw A panel fame) have somewhat ominously recently listed a 24” TN panel on their site

http://www.hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1202998
http://auo.com/auoDEV/products.php?sec=monitor&func=items&items_id=1&ls=en

I can’t help but think that in an attempt to avoid the panel controversy/lottery of the 226bw Samsung has created/released the 245bw for the American market which will have the cherry picked better panels (so it gets favourable reviews) prior to the launch of the 245b European version, which I’m guessing won’t have an identical panel to that of the 245bw

Surely If the 245bw and 245b are identical monitors there wouldn’t be the need for two separate model numbers launching at different times? Samsung didn’t go down this route with the 226bw

Any news on the 245T, seems to me its vaporware now and its release was suppose to coinside with the 245B yet there are no reviews for it yet.
