Samsung 3D vs Nvidia 3D ?

Little be confused at the mo..

Saw this which is 3D and includes its own glasss..

So I'm wondering would I need one of these too:

Or if not, would buying a 120hz Monitor, and getting the nvidia kit be better than buying the Samsung 3D Monitor

Basically, if you are using an Nvidia graphics card then you are best getting a 120Hz monitor that supports Nvidia 3D vision2 (like this) and the 3D vision kit (or a bundle).

If you have an AMD graphics card then you are best using a monitor that does the 3D syncing internally, has a dual-link DVI or Displayport input and works with tridef drivers - like that Samsung.

Okay thanks, and what does it mean by "Nvidia 3D Vision ready?"
Would any 120Hz monitor work, or is it just a marketing fad

Generally, any LCD monitor that can drive a 120Hz signal through a dual-link DVI port should work with 3D vision.

However, for 3D vision2 there is a technology called "lightboost" which greatly increases the backlight level when in 3D mode to counter the dimming effect of the 3D glasses. Monitors have to specifically support this - which the BenQ XL2420T for example does.

Ah I see, makes sense I suppose, when I tried 3D back when it first come out it was quite dark, so will probably invest in that BenQ one then.

No.
Nvidia removed generic support.
Nvidia vision wouldn't do jack with the Sammy 700D. Nvidia don't support frame sequential modes through tridef, so I had to downgrade to a 7970 for 3D.
Unless of course you mean the Nvidia 3D Vision glasses lark with the Sammy, in which case I don't know, I can't imagine spending a further 100+ for 3D when you have everything you need and it's your GPU vendor preventing you from using it.

Yea, I was meaning the nvidia glasses with the Samsung (with the samsung just being used as a dumb 120Hz monitor) - but as you say that isn't ideal as you have to spend extra on the glasses kit and you don't get the benefit of the lightboost technology (which does work with the BenQ).
