Anyone got any opinions or otherwise for this as an optional alternative to the popular LG 42&48 inch OLEDS as a large desktop monitor.

Its obviously MINI LED, and very close to OLED in black performance but much much better in brightness and HDR etc etc, It has me tempted...

I glanced over the specs, be very careful with TV manufacturers all of them and especially Samsung.

Samsung likes to claim they put the high end or "good" specs and tech into the smaller 43" and lower size TVs but they can deceive you. I know since have seen it for over a decade or 2.

First thing I looked at the specs is if they addressed the poor viewing angles with this mini led TV that cost 1.4K and sure enough check the top specs it clearly states :-
  • Catch all the action from any angle and see every brilliant detail, without distracting glare*

If you see the * on the end scroll down, the small print says its only on 55" and above. Very deceptive if one didn't spot the small print or read it fully. This 43" Samsung does not have wide viewing angle, its basically going to look poor when you look at it from the sides or at an angle.

In my opinion mini led is nice but its got some flaws, hdtvtest showed in his review in dark scenes it can miss areas all together. Poor viewing angles and higher price tag then the OLEDs makes this an almost not worth it.

I would look at the LG 42" C2 OLED, its the best 42" sized TV on the market, has the best viewing angles, best picture quality and cost the same price. Was actually 1.2k a week ago now its 1.4k.

Last years 43QN90A should never have had that model badge due it being gimped so badly. No VRR, no 120hz support yet several retailers I looked at stated these features were supported.

This new version isnt as gimped as last years but its still compromised.

Anyone picked the 43" up in this and been using this as a PC/Console screen, I have an LG OLED in my main TV room but it doesn't wow me for gaming as you often have large bright regions and OLED goes a bit dim, also I want to use in office, for office stuff and I don't want have to concern myself with the static image issues, the specs on this QN90B look reasonable, is it? At <700 quid with trade in, it seems fine)

I use a 43 inch TV as a monitor in the office that only does 60hz etc right now, it gets used for games when I am not allowed to monopolize main tv ( it's an old 43ks7500 ) and I'm fine with that, so I am sure this will be a winner with things like VRR, 144Hz and more brightness but it'd be good to hear from actual users.

I guess no one has tried it? I may have to be the pioneer :D

I nearly got bitten last year with Samungs terrible marketing for the 43" models and couldn't find any that where not completely gimped.

I'm checking the specs of the 43QN90B and on the surface the specs say HDR1500 so it's slightly down on the larger screen sizes, but OMG it seems they have finally twigged on that people want to use smaller screen sizes for monitors/gaming..

Just looking for the spec gimping:
* QN90B 43”/50”: Quantum HDR 1500
*43“/50” QN90B supports Dolby Atmos® with virtual top speakers.

*OTS Lite available with 43'‘/50" QN90B. (Object Audio)
*Ultra Viewing Angle with Anti Reflection Screen - From 55" and above QN90B.

Not too bad, the HDR1500 is adequate, OTS Lite (Object Tracking Sound) is OK, I wouldn't use the built in speakers anyway, and whilst the 'Ultra' viewing angle isn't present, anti-reflective is in the specs, and for a gaming monitor, I'm always sat in front..
OK, 'terrible horizontal viewing angles'.. looking at their off axis graphs, it really is much worse than anything else I’ve seen, and reports from Reddit users do confirm it’s noticeable when sat at a desk up close…

I’m swinging back to an OLED, but wanting to see what it would take when I use it often for extensive coding and design work (so static windows for hours on end)..
- have a 2 min screensaver timeout.
- use a third party tool to hide the taskbar properly
- write or use one of the very homegrown apps to slowly move open windows around (I;ve done this for my small OLED display modules I use in various hardware projects I develop)
- have it in low SDR brightness

It’s a shame, I had the 43qn90b in the basket, but whilst I don’t need amazing viewing angles, the rtings graphs compared to other 43” monitors with similar va panels do show it to be absolutely worst in class.

I look dead on so viewing angles aren't important though the size and proximity might mean that the corners may change colour slightly which could be annoying, the ghosting mentioned in more of a concern.
