Is this still, bang for buck one of the better gaming laptops to own, or has newer tech meant its now being left behind?

If anyone was in the market for a laptop and was looking to spend this sort of money would this still be a good recommendation..?

Or is there now better with similar features such as

120hz 1080p HD screen
8GD SSD
2TB HDD
Backlit keyboard

Always liked my Samsung 700G7A, is it still one of the better ones or now out of date?

Well i have this, and its still as fresh and new as when i had it 11 months ago. I played F1 2012 all in Ultra @1080p, and in 3D (connected to my Samsumg ES 8000 TV). it looks superb. All my other games that played/play well still do obviously. Not sure what the current GFX Hogs games there are out there, but if it plays what It can now, i'm not really intersted in anything more powerful TBH - as wouldn't need it.

Its always hard to know which gaming laptop is the one to go for.. I game a lot on my existing laptops but just looking around to see what is out there. Not that interested in the ATI 7970M due to the problems with it at present, GTX 680M looks to be blistering good. Anything past £2000 for a laptop is getting to be silly money, but you won’t from the looks of it be getting top end performance for less then £1300.

So far, been looking around and I’ve got it down to these laptops at the moment

Samsung NP700G7C

I like

  • Nice looking design, jog wheel and screen
  • Storage space – 1.5TB is good
  • 16GB memory
  • Fantastic price - £1300 if you shop around
Don’t like

  • GTX 675M – is it good enough, basically a rebadged 580M
  • 8GB SSD – SSD is left wanting

Clevo P170M

I like

  • GPU options – GTX 680M looks good
  • Good configurability
  • Storage options
  • Screen options

Don’t like

  • Ugly as sin, very brick looking design

Alienware MX 17 r4

I like

  • GTX 680M again looks good
  • HDMI in – excellent to connect a PS3 or external HDMI device
  • Very nice looking

Don’t like

  • Storage options cost the earth
  • Expensive

MSI GT70

I like

  • Dual 128GB SSD – RAID 0
  • Large SATA 750GB Drive
  • GTX 680M
  • Sound options look good
  • Excellent array of USB and external ports

Don’t like

  • Expensive
  • Not overly keen on the design, but much better looking then the Clevo

Surprised the Samsung G700G7A hasn't been upgraded to GTX680M by Samsung by now..

I'm so tempted by this -

  • Clevo P170EM - Extreme Performance Custom Gaming Laptop
  • Screen: 17.3" 1080p Full HD Gloss
  • Screen Calibration: SPYDER 4 Professional screen calibration - Requires Windows
  • Dead Pixel Guarantee - For full systems only: None
  • Overclocking - requires Windows: Overclock my CPU, GPU, RAM
  • Graphics Card: nVidia GeForce GTX 680M 4.0GB GDDR5 with Optimus switchable graphics
  • Thermal Compund: IC DIAMOND / Arctic Silver Thermal Compund on CPU and GPU
  • CPU: Intel Core i7 Quad Core 3610QM 2.3GHZ
  • RAM: 16GB DDR3 (1600) Dual Channel KINGSTON HYPERX
  • Hard Drive: 240GB Intel 320 SSD
  • Second HDD: 1TB Scorpio Blue 5400RPM 8MB Cache
  • Third Hard Drive - Must select optical bay caddy: No Third Hard Drive
  • Optical Drive: 4X Blu-Ray Reader/ 8X Super Multi DVDRW
  • MSATA SSD Drives: 30GB MSATA SSD
  • Connectivity: 802.11BGN WiFi + Bluetooth Combo Card
  • Operating System: No operating system
  • Keyboard - Non UK may add to build time: UK Backlit
  • Power Cord: UK Standard Power Cord
  • Warranty: 2 Year Warranty RTB on case and components, 1 year on screen, 9 months batteries - Lifetime free labour
  • Additional Battery: None

It’s not the best looking laptop in the world, but it’s absolutely packed to the brim with anything you could ever want. The entire laptop has everything from excellent storage, excellent CPU and GPU and comes with a very good screen and external connectivity. I just wonder what the build quality is like on these units, I’m so tempted.

And at just a bit over £1500, Alienware comes nowhere close to this.
