Hi, my name is Kai, I'm new to these forums. I hope you guys/girls can help.

Just received this amazing piece of kit, and all is good.

However, I've been struggling to find the settings to allow the twin Hitachi 750gb HDD's to run in RAID 0 rather than 2 separate drives.

Screenshot of the drive configuration (out the box) is below.

Normally, I'd enable the RAID setting in the BIOS and install fresh from the recovery DVD, but that setting seems to be absent in the Samsung BIOS.

Am I missing something?

Cheers

In the bios there should be an option (if your chipset supports it) to switch between IDE, AHCI and RAID.

In raid mode and extra splash screen is introduced at startup, pressing ctrl + I during this screen will let you go into the configuration on this mode.

Warning: Setting up a raid array will format the drives you are doing it to so all data is lost. This includes recovery partitions so you wont be able to re-install factory settings from the drives.

Nope, the samsung bios doesn't appear to have a RAID setting for the HDDs.

Just noticed on the samsung website: Samsung NP700G7C Spec

1.5TB S-ATA II Hard Drive (7200RPM, 750GB x 2) with ExpressCache 8GB

So it is 2 drives, but they're not in RAID 0... Worth correcting the shop listing on the website?

To be fair it doesnt mention RAID anywhere on the specs, so i guess its not raid enabled just 2x drives.

Nice looking machine otherwise :p

Yes there is no RAID option in the Samsung Gamer Laptops BIOS. The RAID is a software RAID when you first turn the machine on from new it asks you if you want a RAID setup or separate drives. It is a software RAID not a hardware RAID that they setup.

This link below explains how you can create a software RAID in Windows 7.

How to Create a Software RAID Array in Windows 7

I tested my system with a RAID and without and it made very little difference to actual speeds because the Express cache SSD seemed to be doing all the work and speeded up the system. I left mine in the end without a RAID and happy with it that way due to the fact if one of the drives fails the chances of getting back any data will be a royal pain. If you want a RAID above is what you need to do on the Samsung Gamers.
