Hi, I ordered this a few weeks ago but not got round to installing it. Anyway, I was looking at how to do a firmware update on it if needed and came accross quite a few comments about issues of degradation.

Does anyone have this ssd and does it run OK?

Only if you have an 990PRO with old firmware 0B2QJXD7, i urge you to install the newest firmware, 3B2QJXD7, if not your drive will die slowly..."

I've had mine installed and in pretty light use since December 2023, showing no issues or undue degradation with a meagre 4.6TBW (1.6TB in use) running 4B2QJXD7 firmware

Edit: There were issues on release where the drive was incorrectly reducing the health % rating in SMART but that was resolved with a firmware fix which is why you are coming across those comments.

i've asked to RMA it but today is literally 30 days since having it. Not sure if i can now. I did find the following:
Samsung 990Pro - Firmware Updates
0B2QJXD7 - 10.2022 - First
1B2QJXD7 - 02.2023 - Fixing The Degradation to address these anomalies.
The update fixes the underlying cause of the rapid health declines.
3B2QJXD7 - 05.2023
4B2QJXD7 - 12.2023 - improves the stability and performance of the drive.

I'd rather keep it as I have the 1 TB Samsung Evo and its been great.

Forgot to mention, firmware updates are easy if you install samsung magician (do that first on the current 1tb drive).

If firmware updates are available you sill see an N next to Update in the bottom left corner. You can check the firmware version by just clicking on the drives tab and it's on the overview page.
 
Hi, decided to go ahead and use it. All looks good so far and came with the latest firmware 4B2QJXD7. My 970 evo runs at 38C, whilst the 990 pro is at 34C. Will keep and eye on it and see what happens.

Ive got 3 990 pro 2tb, all 3 about 2 years old and all installed at the same time and still very healthy. Ran them for a few months before learning about magician and no degregation to any of them. Firmware has now been kept upto date and ive no worries that they will fail on me or start offing themselves lol. Ive been tempted to get a 4tb one aswell as im planning to swap my case soon so perfect time to do it.

If your firmware is upto date, you wont have any issues. It only affected those who used it with the affected firmware for a while. Im sure they all come from the factory with unaffected firmware now anyways.
