Hey all

It seems quite a few people are getting this monitor now due to its awesome picture quality for a tn panel and its looks. Anyway i thought we could start an optimal settings thread so people can compare their personal settings.
I got mine last week and i'm absolutely chuffed to bits with it. Anyway here are my settings all of which have been adjusted using the touch sensitive controls and in built menus. Played about with them for quite a while and i really like these. Obviously people have their own tastes so post what you find looks good :)

Brightness: 69
Contrast: 80
Sharpness: 60
MagicBright: Custom
MagicAngle: Off
Response Time: Faster

MagicColor: Off
Red: 50
Green: 50
Blue: 43 (i find the led backlight causes a blue tint to images so this makes it spot on)
Color Tone: Custom
Color Effect: Off
Gamma: Mode 2

That sounds pretty much in-line with the settings used for our BX2350 review sample. I have had a pretty extensive session talking to somebody over on the PC Monitors forums about setting up the BX2450 correctly. He seems a bit disappointed by the overall image - presumably because it is quite muted and quite well-aligned to sRGB compared to a lot of TN panel monitors. He was also comparing it, I think, to a 42" plasma screen so the difference in the image is probably quite extreme. For anybody who has, or is thinking about having, the BX2450 - just remember that its relative strengths compared to other TN panels are natural colours and good subtle shade rendition (within sRGB) and the image is not particularly vibrant.

nice one. i am about to start calibrating mine, and most likely will take yours as a guideline nosluom and then take it from there.

a quick question though: when i go to adjust the resolution in display, the highest i can set it to is 1280 x 1024. obviously that's not the optimal resolution for this monitor and as result large black spaces are left at the sides and top.

any thoughts on this?

for definite? not that i don't believe you but i prefer not having to mess around with my grpahics drivers if i don't have to. but this is the only way to get the new monitor displaying at the right resolution?

thought it was something i was doing. yea for whatever reason, completely unable to open magictune in win7 so have to do it manually with the touch buttons. unfortunately i've not been able to sort out the network drivers for my new pc yet which means no internet which means i've not been able to sort out these settings and post, and now going away for 10 days. will make sure to bump and post to this thread when back though. :)

oh yea and this seems like a useful link to leave here also:

Have this monitor now, initial thoughts where not good as I'm coming from an ips panel,
(as expected really), but after some adjustments I'm quite happy with this screen.

Slight adjustment still ongoing to find my perfect setting however i have one problem, maybe its something I've overlooked but on boot up no bios screen is displayed, any tips?

Set the source manually (somewhere in picture options) so it isn't trying to search for the correct source every time you turn it on. Also try to turn the monitor on and leave it for a few seconds before turning on the computer. Out of interest what was the IPS panel you were using previously?

I got a BX2450 for Christmas. Man, it's bright out of the box. I've just borrowed an HP Colorimter so I'll see what that tells me. One thing that does annoy me is the inability to set a specific colour temperature on the monitor, that's just daft.

You can adjust the colour bias (R,G and B) or set the colour tone to 'warm' or 'cool'. It's all in the aptly named 'color' menu. If you mean the white point (6500K etc.) that can be done in the graphics driver but it may be of limited use. The reason it's left out on this monitor is the same reason it's left out on most consumer models - the value is not very accurate at all and with a panel of this type the values will differ considerably across the screen. Best stick to the colorimeter to adjust this kind of thing, but do be aware of the caveats mentioned. Before you do any of this change the gamma to 'mode 2' as it improves the colour temperature straight off.

Thanks, i'll look around picture and menu settings,

i was using the Nec Multisync 20WGX2.

guys i think my monitor has got a bit of fault, dont know if anyone can help. The left hand side of the monitor is fine but on the right hand side there seems to be a section where the pixels arent refreshing as quickly.
If i have a dark background on my desktop and am on a white background webpage, when i minimize the web page there's a big circular halo shape on the black background containing an image of the webpage i was on in a weird orangy colour that then fades back to black.
It doesnt do it anywhere else on the screen just in this big ring shape as though the pixels are refreshing slower than the rest.
I'd noticed this big ring before when changing scenes in games but only just found this way of testing it and checking it does it all the time. If i have a white window open and drag it around this section of the background i can see this ring section slowly refreshing back to black. When i say slowly i dont mean minutes haha but it doesnt do it like this on the rest of the screen. any ideas? reckon i have a faulty one?

Thanks for the input. I've used the colorimeter now and I've got it looking pretty good. I'd actually gotten it pretty close in the first place with just my eyes. However, no I've got another problem, although not specific to this monitor. I've got no way of running both monitors using different profiles unless (I think) I buy a dual-head graphics card. My nVidia 7800GTX doesn't seem to support this feature. What this means is that windows is using the profile created on one monitor and just applying it to the other monitor. They don't look the same at all. I've tried manually fiddling with the controls on the second monitor but I can''t get it exactly right. Never mind, this is a topic for another thread.

Overall I'd have to say I'm very happy with this monitor. The only downside with my purchase was that it wasn't made from OCUK, as they don't sell it. This is a bigger point than it sounds - I like to show loyalty to companies who don't let me down and treat me right. OCUK have always done this (which is why I have them on speed-dial, lol).

Got this monitor yesterday and like others have experienced it was extremely bright with a bluish tinge out of the box. Messed around with settings for a while and got it have decent looking. Any got a list of their settings that they are happy with?
