looking at a d8000 atm most likely a 55" led model.

firstly i'm looking at a well known chain ran by some bloke called Julian(dont know if their a competitor here?) they are offering a UE55D8000 with a free blue ray player bd5500 and the fancy sammy remote rmc30d1p2 which the wife fell in love with :)

their quoting me £2200 - good price/bad price?

and is there a better option for the money?

I would steer well clear of this TV. My bro in law has one (well on his second one) its just as bad though. Sure it looks the dogs nutz but the picture quality in a dark room is just horrible, he is really unhappy with his. You will get bad back light bleeding in all 4 corners at best and more elsewhere at worst, he gets quite a bit of clouding going on as well looks like the pixles are all moving about and it suffers badly from posterization. I have watched a movie round his house on it and was not impressed at all. I found this on the net this shows a bit of what his is like.

Looks great when off but rubbish when on. I would look at the plasma route still till oled screens become available. Samsung - lg and panasonic all make some good 3d plasma tv's. I have a vt30 and I rate it very highly.

Most of the Samsungs LED LCDS suffer from really poor screen uniformity. I've yet to see one which is anywhere near acceptable in a dark enviroment.

Infact most ultra slim LED LCDs have poor screen uniformity.

Yea I wouldn't go near one with a barge pole to be honest - just watched Quantum of Solace on my Panny TX-P50V20B in a pitch back room and it was gorgeous :)

Such smooth and deep blacks it's hard to tell it from the surroundings at times - although when it goes to a bright scene quickly it does make a lot of noise in getting those bright whites to shine but that's fine as it's soon back to silent blacks!

hmmm ok what about the 64" version of the above? being a plasma and all would it be a suitable alternative. its a bit too big for my living room but i'm sure i'd get used to it :)
