hi all seems i have a problem with my dvd drive ok you can put the disk in wait a min click on icon say plz put a disc in ect ect also makes a bit of a clunking noise tryed cd dvd's nothing even the dvd icon dont change either is it nacked or is there something i can do:mad:

go to mycomputer ( right click ) Sellect properties - device manager and see if your hardware drivers are installed ok. ( yellow marks if not ).

I got the same drive, and so have a few others, I think Ocuk got a dodgy batch, or all of them are like it cos mine is dead too. I've chucked my old Pioneer IDE drive in, I know that works, and its working like a treat now.

Gonna RMA that samsung rubbish!

Mine is indeed a CD-099-SA, and it was DOA, only built my rig a few days ago.

I say its dead, its not dead, it just doesn't work properly. It will run, then it will hang my windows explorer for ages. Then I might try and run crysis and it will tell the cd isn't in the drive, until I eject and put it back in.

Got annoyed with it I took it out and put my old IDE pioneer in (which I might add I got from ocuk a few years back)... I think all my computer guff has come from you guys.

Ok that sounds good, its a bit dearer though, to save on the aggro of paying the extra (which I don't really wanna do) whats the Asus DRW-20B1ST (http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CD-044-AS) drive like? I assume that is fine, cos its not Samsung or Pioneer, have you had any returns of those? They are the exact same price as the samsung I got, so would be a straight swap.

Also, with RMA's at ocuk, do I get a refund on posting it back to you guys?

The full details of the RMA will be sent via email once the RMA has been generated but yes, postage can be refunded once the fault has been confirmed and the RMA completed.

I've no personal experience with the Asus drive - I recommend the Pioneer one as these are what we use across our entire systems range.

Ok sarf, I'll go for the Pioneer one then. I'll send the RMA request tomorrow!

Thanks matey!

Requested my RMA and got the repsonse back, packaged the drive up and will send back to sunny Stoke tomorrow :)

Thanks again!

Good good, you may be given the Pioneer at no extra cost, will have to see though. :)
We used to use the CD-099-SA across our build range which is why its known to me (work in system builds, not returns). The Pioneers really have been brilliant so far.

my asus one has been fine, used 3 so far in different builds and all seem to read everything ok and no issues (none older than a few months though)
