Hey, im not massively experienced with monitors, so i was just looking for some advice!

Im a pretty big samsung fanboy, and was looking at buying the G7! I current have a Samsung LC27JG50QQUXEN, its 144hz 1440p Va pannel ect.

Im soon to be getting a 3080 and have a 5900x.
Do you think its worth upgrading to the samsung G7? Will there be a noticeable difference between these monitors? And do you think its worth the upgrade?

It's the best monitor to get until MicroLED or affordable computer-desk-sized OLED become available.

As long as you don't mind the backlight / pixel lottery which you must play with every LCD screen these days.

Plus the manufacturer's Quality Control (my Odyssey G7 has a gap between the panel and bottom bezel on the left).

And you don't mind low-framerate content (TV and movies) being blurry still due to VA tech, and the pixel response controls do nothing.

My G7 as been amazing, there was an issue with them when they first came out with flickering this has been fixed since firmware 1009.3. Best monitor I have ever used.

It is not fixed but reduces and causes other issues, read the official thread for the G7, QA is poor esp so on the G9.

Samsung are putting out a new model but I doubt it is any better.

I have the 27" Samsung Odyssely G7 and I absolutely love it.
for gaming, imo it's the best monitor you can buy unless you go OLED / require Ultra WIDE.
I've bought and compared both Dell 2721DGF IPS and this Odyssey G7 and for gaming and media G7 was the clear winner.

Why did you think the G7 VA was better then the Dell IPS? Was it the better contrast and less bleed?

I briefly had the LG850 monitor that shares the same panel as the Dell 2721DGF and yes, the main disappointment for me was the poor contrast. It was the price of the G7 that was holding me back until I managed to get a 32” in the Black Friday sale for £499. Still pretty expensive, but contrast is WAY better and also has the bonus of going up to 240Hz.

much better contrast, much better blacks, much less light bleed, and colours also more vibrant and punchy.(due to it being QLED panel)

I bought the Dell first, for £330 using a code directly from Dell but the same day it arrived famous online retailer had G7 for sale for £430 so bought that too.

compared them side by side.
Dell was ok but really no match for G7 for gaming.returned the Dell next day and G7 stayed.
I don’t think anyone could favout Dell over G7 for gaming if they try both.G7 is simply a superior gaming monitor.

easily worth £100 more.

the only better option than Odyssey G7/G9 for gaming is LG OLED.

That is interesting to know. I have the older Samsung LC27HG70, so I have wondered how IPS stacks up against VA. Thanks for the response.

G7 /G9 are premium gaming specific monitors, and not really comparable to average/cheap VA panels, most of the VA cons been resolved/reduced in these series.
And IPS also has its own cons.in case of that Dell, they were very noticeable.

Does anybody have the delay of the monitor going between hdr and non hdr? Playing war zone for example on pc hdr... No worries.. But if I get an invite or message on xbox pc companion thing.. It takes approx 2/3 seconds to run hdr off to show the invite.. Then another 2/3 to turn hdr back on.

Oh yes, huge delays when turning monitor on initially, coming out of standby or switching HDR mode on / off.

No clue but would need scaling in Windows (still pretty poor support) to be usable without long term eye strain at 4k on a 31.5" panel so not my cup of tea.

Some things do not scale well esp. 3rd party Apps so depends what you use but whole Window desktop will need scaled for some, Macs are much as I hate them do Vector Scaling which is better.

Not sure why they do not do a 34-36" 4K 16:9 panel, suppose it comes down to how many cuts they can get out a sheet.

I found 27" 1440p small at times.
