So i my trusty Samsung Galaxy S1 and i've decided i want to upgrade it in some shape or form.

I've seen a few posts around about people updating software, adding new things and generally tinkering with it. All of these posts have been about later phones (S2/3 and onwards) but i was wondering if there was anything i could do with mine?

Perhaps it's a silly question but i'm looking for a bit of guidance really.

The only thing i've done with my phone is connect it to my laptop as 'mass storage' and copied a few things over but i've not tinkered with any of the Android side.

Firmware version: 2.1-update1
Kernel version: 2.6.29

well it looks like you're running 2.1 which is Eclair, you can update to 2.2 (Froyo) and then to 2.3 (Gingerbread). You can do this by registering an account with Samsung and checking for updates in the phone's settings, or by using Kies.

If it was mine, however, I'd stick CM10 on it which is the latest version of android (Jelly Bean/4.2) and it'll make it much more snappier.
