Hi

Never posted in here and know very little about the tablet pc market.

My Dad is thinking of ditching his laptop andgetting a Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 for christmas...

His main use is browsing the net and writing the odd letter

Can he print from his tablet to his printer using this tablet?

Thanks

It's possible to print to network printers, the results can be... interesting. Got a specific printer model number about?

won't a tablet be crap for writing a letter? get a laptop.

He has a laptop but he sits in his leather Arm Chair with the laptop on knee a mouse mat balanced on the arm and a mini usb mouse as he can't use the Laptop touchpad mouse thingy

I brought an Ipad 2 home for him to see...I used the onscreen keyboard to type and he loved it...The fact it won't get dirty etc...

He didn't like the fact that about 5 websites didnt display correctly though due to no flash support.

Plus I hate apple.:p

Hence my suggestion to him about the Galaxy Tab 10.1

He also said that he could easily mount it in his Motorhome dash for music playback whilst driving on holiday, GPS and mobile browsing!

The Asus Transformer + keyboard dock? or even better... wait for the Transformer Prime for quad core goodness :D

The video review should work tomorrow :p

Isnt that just like having a netbook though?

Sorry to butt in, but im lost on what Tablet to get tbh and this Asus is recommended but i quite like the Ipad2 on screen keyboard as i dont need to have any accessories etc to use it.

Well net book isnt as portable when you need it to be and netbooks dont last even half the time a tablet will, the asus gets like 14 hours with the keyboard attachment and i think 8 9 hours without, I have a Ipad and it lasts all day of heavy use and a week of just light usage and surfing, and its always on unlike a netbook which you have to boot up.

Tab 10.1 would be fine for surfing and writing the odd letter, but I would not recommend trying to actually print from the thing as it does not seem to be easy though I have no direct experience myself. Not sure why a tab 10.1 thread has turned into a transformer thread tbh...

Transformer is only better if you really want the keyboard dock or if 16gb isn't enough storage.

people say that about everything that uses gorilla glass. It's tough, yes, but that doest mean you can't scratch it. my own galaxy s2 is proof of that :(
Happened to me as well. In another accident I even cracked the display completely and had to have it replaced. Now there are no scratches - it fixed the problem completely (Based on my experience I can highly recommend cracking and exchanging display in situations like that)
