New low priced tablets, which one is king?

It seems like Samsung have released a Wifi only version of their Galaxy tab for £299. As far as I can see the features are exactly the same apart from the fact it doesn't have 3G connectivity.

Advent have now lowered the price on the Vega to a shocking £200. Which is a response to Samsung's £300 Galaxy tablet, which leaves the ipad at £399 in a completely new price range.

And Acer are going to release a £300 tablet which has similiar specs to the Galaxy tab as far as I can tell called the Acer Aspire ICONIA TAB A100.

Has anyone had any experience with the Galaxy Tabs and how do they compare to other tablets?

Can't make up my mind now..

I have a Galaxy Tab with 3G connectivity for 2 months now and really love it. I also have an Archos 70IT which is really crappy : specially the Froyo OS.
Galaxy Tab display is pretty good and Gorilla Glass type that means or supposed to be unbreakable. Wouldn't trade it with the Apple tablet... ^^
Can't compare it with Advent or Acer Iconia...

without 3g connectivity it becomes a totally different device, more desk/house bound. 3g really allows you to use it anywhere, use it as a satnav, dock it in your car, facebook for random locations, catch up with emails wherever.

Wont be an issue if you have a smartphone and dont mind tethering your 3g obviously, but I would rather have the 3g in the streak just in case..

All are slightly different in their build up

Galaxy Tab
7" Screen, nice viewing angles, single core processor, definitely designed for that bit of extra portability, hardware is a little 'old' now

Acer Iconia
7" Screen (No idea about Quality), Tegra 2 dual core processor

Advent Vega
10.1" Screen (Standard netbook, poor viewing angles, but good view normally), Tegra 2 dual core processor

If you want a 'netbook' replacement for just surfing the web, watching youtube stuff, etc, etc, the Vega with the larger screen is very compelling, very well supported over at Modaco, I had LauncherPro running on mine, it was pretty impressive in it's speed and general pick up and surf ability..

My brother has the Galaxy 3G Tab, which has a nice screen, but it's a little small for web-surfing, and not so nice to just sit on the sofa and use IMO, but he uses it in his car as well (Sat-NAV), but it's a bit big for that kind of thing!..

As for 3G, you can use Android/iPhones to share their 3G via Wifi, or use a MiFi, the downside about onboard 3G is you either need a seperate sim for data (And pay for this), or take the sim out your phone and use any data on that, which is inconvenient..

It really depends on what you want to use it for, I miss my Vega (No longer have it) for just picking it up, playing the odd game/surfing/chatting with mates, but if I had to take it 'everywhere' with me, I might consider a Galaxy..

I would love a HTC Flyer, but £563?!! Madness.

I think I'll stick with my vega for now, as nothing is going to be worth the extra cost for a while really.

Saying that, if I didn't already have it I'd be inclined to wait for something a bit slicker tho..

Yeah I thought 3G might be an issue but I have an app for my Nokia 5800 which allows wireless devices to share it's 3G connection which is extremely useful. It's also pretty stable (I was sharing the phones internet on a train towards London a few weeks ago).

I've seen some video's of the Galaxy Tab and although the screen does look impressive and the features look promising it looks too small for watching films and general internet surfing which leads me to the Vega for £200.

I'm just worried the quality might not be up to scratch. But I think I'm going to wait and see what tablets come out with Honeycomb 3.0 which is due to be released this week apparentely.

If the Advent Vega can run Honeycomb 3.0 then I'll probably go for that or see if another good value tablet comes out.

What's the screen like for watching HD video's on the Vega anyway?
