I have this laptop and I let windows 10 upgrade itself over the windows 7 it came with. Everything seems to work apart from the Modeshift function. This is a wheel switch on the side of the laptop which is supposed to switch between power saving modes, as well as do things like disable the track pad, when you want to play a game. I also seem to remember it is supposed to increase CPU and/or graphics performance.

Anyway, after installing W10 the Modeshift wheel does not look as though it is changing power modes, and it definitely doesn't disable the trackpad. So I'm also thinking it is not increasing performance either if the rest of the functions don't work, which is the main thing I'm bothered about.

I installed the Windows 8 version of Modehsift, but it doesn't seem any different. There is no W10 specific version I can find.

So, the main question, the fact this the modeshift wheel doesn't seem to do anything, am I definitely losing the increased performance in games? If not then I'm not so bothered about it, if all it is doing is leaving the trackpad enabled while gaming.

Has anyone gone to win10 on this laptop and not had this, or got round it? I quite like windows 10 on it, but if it has nobbled gaming performance then I'll be going back to W7. I suppose I could do some benchmarks to compare, but that would mean having to put W7 back on anyway to test, so any info would be gratefully received.

I'm not familiar with this laptop but generally these switches are just a convenient way of adjusting the power plan. You can most likely work round it by going into power options from control panel and manually switching to high performance. You can also create your own custom plan or adjust any existing one in the advanced options. This is mainly about your CPU but also covers other components.

In terms of your GPU, you want to manipulate that with the driver software. So, nVidia Control Panel or Catalyst Control Center for AMD.

Thanks for the reply. I managed to suss out that the cpu speed and gpu speed can be controlled manually by the power plan as you say, the only other thing which this switch did was to disable the trackpad and also it used to do something to disable certain windows services for extra speed. I'm not that bothered about these so I'm sticking with windows 10 on this laptop. Infact, installing W10 seems to have installed the latest mobility catalyst drivers, whereas before the drivers wouldn't let me install them in windows 7, saying I had to have specific Samsung ones, so that is also a plus.

I ended up sticking it on balanced on my 700G7C anyhow due to problems with forgetting it was on performance mode with certain services disabled :S with a couple of tweaks to the power plan there was no performance difference anyhow.

Which exact version did you install and does it work exactly as it did before? I.e. disable certain windows servcies, disable the track pad, change the desktop backgrounds etc, when entering turbo mode?
