Evening chaps,

Looking to get a new HD DVD player to accompany my new Samsung 26" LCD (as per thread below). Has anybody got on these DVD players in title?

As far as I can see they should be compatible with current DVD standards and when they eventually arrive HD DVD Discs or whatever they are called...

Let me know your thoughts.

HD950

Bought one and then sold it, I preferred the picture my Philips progressive scan dvd player gave through component on my Sammy 26".

I don't think the HD950 will be compatible with HD-DVD.

Have a search over on Avforums, quite a popular budget player that one!

Can be had for just over £100 quid :)

I have the hd-950 but i its gone faulty it will not work in upscaleing modes anymore which is what i got it for. the remote control is unresponsive and the menu system is poor and you have to manualy select ntsc/pal no auto mode which is a pain.

it is NOT a HDDVD player
they wont be out here till about august, what it does do is changes the dvds picture 575i to 720p or 1080i, improving the picture.

I got the HD850 and have to admit the picture quality is excelent. I have it all connected to my Samsung 26" via HDMI.

Couldnt be happier.

I have the 850 also, and I can certainly recommend it - I have to admit I am not sure what the difference is between the 850 and 950 but in most places the 850 seems to be about £50 cheaper

I just got the Philips dvp5900 and I am very happy with it so far. I did a fair bit of reading on the av forums and a lot of people seemed impressed with it. Only cost 70 quid as welll!

Was very impressed with this player for the money, just prefered the look & feel of the Samsung TBH.

As far as I can tell the 950 is DVD-Audio & SACD compatible ie it has 6ch audio output connections on the back and is wma compatible.
