Samsung LE26R41BD and HDMI problem

I know there are a few people on these forums with one of these, so hopefully one of you can help.

I am trying to connect my HTPC to this TV using a DVI to HDMI cable.
I have tried an ATI and NVidia card and both produce the same results.

Anyway, the TV manual recommends 1360x768 as the optimum resolution. However this produces a 1/2 sized desktop in the middle of the screen (occaisonally with what looks liek a combing effect), with a black border.
Running 1280x720 gets an image that is slightly too large for the screen.
If I do a custom res of ~1190x692 I get an image the perfect size.

After messing about for a while, it seems that once I increase the res over a certain amount the image starts to get smaller.

I have not tried a VGA connection yet. Is there some setup somewhere in the TV menus that is causing this to not work, or does it sound like a problem with the TV?

It would be if there was a VGA cable buried in a wall to connect the PC to screen as well as the DVI one! PC is in the room above and the cable runs down the inside of the wall to pop out by the TV (run is approx 3m). I took the TV off the wall and connected it directly to the PC using a shorteer cable and there was no change to the image.

It states in the manual that 1360x768 is the optimum resolution to run with HDMI (no scaling required), so connection to a PC must be supported, as most stand alone devices would run 720p.

After investigation I realise this now.
The cable is a DVI-D only cable, so a proper converter would be around £200. I have run a CAT5e cable in the wall as well. These carry VGA quite well, so I will use that.

I am just annoyed that something so simple to support is not. I have designed an HDMI/DVI interface that does this for a LCD TV, so assumed that all other TVs would be the same.
Evidently not!

Gordy, I have looked at the LG26LX2R and unless I am mistaken it does not have a DTV tuner in it. Do you know if there is an ~26" LCD TV that does 1:1 pixel mapping through DVI and has a DTV tuner?
