Hi Guys

I have a Samsung LE32R8 and i was wondering will it do 1080i ? If not what am i best running for my Xbox 360? 1080P or 720i. Does it all depend on the cable (ie if i use a HDMI cable would i be able to run 1080i) Last time i tryed it on 1080i it told me it wasnt supported but a mate has a much older and cheaper toshiba and that runs on 1080i on certain cables.

Cheers guys, bit of a N00b with the whole HD thing :)

Cheers

Sam

It will accept a 1080i (1920x1080 interlaced) signal over HDMI which will be scaled down to 1366x768.

The best setting though will be 720p (1280x720 progressive) as this requires less scaling and less scaling equals better image quality.

But isnt 720P the lowest setting i can have on my Tv ? I thought it went

720P 720i 1080 p 1080i

Sorry if you could explain i know nothing about lcd tvs

Tnx

It goes 720i 720p 1080i 1080p. The native resolution of the r87 'hd ready' tv is 1366x768 so any 1280x720 image is enlarged and any 1920x1080 image shrunk, so that the image fills the whole screen. A 1080 image has to be scaled down more than a 720 is scaled up, which introduces more artefacts (noise) into the picture. The difference in final quality on a 32" hd ready screen though between a 720p and 1080p source will hardly be noticeable, unless the scaling chip in the tv is cheap and poor at its job.

A 'full hd' tv has a native resolution of 1920x1080 and so using a 1080 signal would be superior to 720.
