Hi All,

I'm just ordering a system for my work, we require three screens running from one machine to display simple things like stats / websites - nothing 3D / Intensive.

Decided on three Samsung LE40A559P4F 40" LCDs.

For the machine I've gone for a basic Dell Optiplex with a ATI FireMV 2400 256MB DDR DVI PCI-E x1 low profile Graphics Card installed which can run upto 4 screens.

The LCD's resolution is 1920x1080 - the graphics card spec states that "The multi-view accelerator card provides 256Mb of DDR graphics memory offering the versatility of mixed resolution types and independent monitor resolutions of up to 2048 x 1536 (analog) and 1600 x 1200 (DVI)".

Should I be running this using DVI/HDMI cables at 1600x1200 or lower, or go for VGA cables and run it at 1920x1080? I know that running LCDs outside of their native resolution generally means fuzzy/uncrisp image.. or is it different for DVI/HDMI? Which method of connection would provide the best picture?

Any advice would be appriciated,
Thanks,
Ryan

up to 2048 x 1536 (analog) and 1600 x 1200 (DVI)".

"up to" are the key words. you can run the 3 x DVI at 1920x1080 to match with the LCDs native resolution thereby avoiding the problems of scaling, you dont have to run it at max res capable by the gfx card.

Just re-read your reply and i think you have miss understood, i know I can run at a resolution to match the tv.. I'm just not sure that this is possible with DVI due to the stated resolutions for the card...

I guess my other concern is that if i go for VGA, will the TV accept 1920x1080 resolution..

Thanks,
Ryan

No problems running native 1920x1080 60hz through VGA and DVI-HDMI on a older Samsung LCD. You want to use DVI-HDMI a bit clearer with text. Updated latest videocard drivers?

the resolutions available for the ATI FireMV would be driver dependant, couldnt find any info on the ati website, but 1920x1080 in all likelihood is supported (cant say for sure though).

according to the manual for your tv, a pc resolution of 1920 x 1080 @ 60 Hz is supported.
