Hi guys,

This is probably in the wrong section but i am having some trouble with my Samsung TV recently purchased, It only has two HDMI outputs on the back one marked as (DVI) compatible, but my small HTPC only has one VGA output on the board and does not have a GPU with any outputs to use. I have both a regular HDMI to VGA cable, and a HDMI to VGA Active adapter, yet I cannot get any sort of display on the TV, I have tried resetting the CMOS to clear all the bios settings and still nothing, No signal of any kind, the TV has very limited function so there aren't many settings to fiddle with, I am if anything stumped with what to do ! please help !

VGA is Analogue, DVI can be Analogue or Digital or both combined depending on type of DVI.

You need some kind of active Chip in between to get a picture.

^^ May cost less than trying to get a decent working Active cable to convert signal.

There is a card here for £23

The Adapter I bought does say it has an active chip in it:

"Built-in active IC chip improves compatibility. Included Micro-USB cable provides additional power for devices with low-power output port such as MacBook Pro with Retina Display"

Does it make a difference that the adapter is plugged in to the TV with the VGA connected to the PC? rather than the opposite way round,

Archaic technology is so frustrating!
