I have just inserted a 990 pro 1tb to my gen 4 slot. Alongside an adata my current drive.
Installed Samsung Magician v8 where it finds my adata drive but not Samsung. The 990 is found in device manager and is listed as a drive in my computer
Any ideas please? I've tried removing it under management and re adding it , labelling it etc .

Where did you get it from? Could be a fake?

Unsure if you can do this with their drives but can you check the warranty on it based on the serial?
I have a serial number, and it's picked up by my adata ssd toolbox as a 990 pro with heatsink. But magician can't find it

I've just installed the software on my PC (I have a Samsung 970 Evo And Samsung 980)

At the very top under Drive dashboard do you have a dark blue banner with both drives? you can click between the 2

You can see an example of what I am trying to explain in this site below under the Samsung Magian software section.

Or are you able to post a screen shot of the drive dashboard section?

What i have found which could be the answer is that my top nvme is pcie4. Which seems to share lanes with the gpu. I remember when I first turned my new build on it showed the 990 pro in bios ... it doesn't now. And that I now have to select x8/x4 rather than x16 pcie4 in bios. Called bifurcation or something

ive had the fake samsung drives i found out because in magician they were there same as my other non samsung drives so it was treating them as another drive not made by samsung
[this was a pair of 870 evos i also had a couple of genuin ones in there and i have my 990 pro boot drive]
only mentioning this as reading between the lines thats part of what we earlier might have feared before you discovered the lane sharing issue. mentioning in case anyone else is wondering what a fake samsung drive would come up like in magician it came up the same as my kingston drives did ie grey instead of blue but i could still look at the drives just cant do the samsung specific things with them, purely in case anyone finds this thread in relation to them thinking they may have a fake samsung
this might only be relevant to the particular fakes i ended up with but it picks up other make drives the same way
i then as an aside noticed that the fakes also had slightly different typing on the model name think a hyphon or something was different so example evo-870 vs evo 870 cant remember which way around it was now but you get the idea

Yeh I appreciate that. I had took a number of steps to check for validity . Digging out the drive is the last thing I could be wanting to do and had ordered another just in case the issue remained . A quick 30 seconds in bios found the answer...

If you can answer without breaking the competitor rule, where did you get them? Was it a store, or a reseller?

i bought 6 of them from 3 different sellers on a well known auction site
2 of them [that came f rom one particular seller] were the fakes
hte other 4 were genuin 2 of them are in my pc now but not connected because i put the gpu in and forgot the sata ports are underneath and im in no hurry to try and sort that issue lol
the other 2 genuin ones are in friends computers the 2 dodgey fakes are in a drawer next to me where i am keeping them hostage to ensure they dont end up being used and failing on someone lol
this was like 3 years ago i bought them and 6 months ago i discovered the fakes LOL! they were sat in the drawer a good couple of years before i got around to using them
