Hi folks,

Purchased the NP700G7C as I've heard many good things about the laptop. I've decided to upgrade one or both hard drives to SSD. However, the screws holding the hard drive cages in place appear to be impossible to remove. I believe green loc-tite has been used!

Has anybody got any experience with replacing the hard drives on these machines? The samsung support site isn't helpful at all!

Kind regards.

I had a Samsung Gamer Laptop before I got my alienware..

i put an SSD in by taking one of the 1TB drives out. It was a bit tricky to get the cage screws out, but I used a long screw driver and applied a bit of force and the screws started to turn and come out..

If they really are locked in good, try a hairdryer to heat them up and see if that helps to loosen them up....

Generally, I felt the Samsung was a good laptop, but putting an SSD was by far and away the best upgrade for them....

Best of luck..

Thanks, but the screws simply don't want to come off. I've managed to remove one of the blighters, but the other one is stuck tight. It's an absolutely tiny screw as well! Very little there for any type of screwdriver to "grip" onto.

It was a bit hard to remove but wasn't impossible on mine, I used a glasses screwdriver. Maybe you want a smaller tip and use some pliers on the grip?

SSD is a top upgrade, get a large SSD and keep the 1TB for data, the other one you remove can goin a USB enclosure

I'm using a small screwdriver, and I've managed to remove one of the 2 screws on Drive bay 1, and both screws on drive bay 2. Unfortunately, it's the primary HDD I want to replace, but that last screw is so stubborn. Looking at the threads of the screws I've removed, they've really been gummed up with loc-tite. I don't see why Samsung would deliberately sabotage their product like this.

sounds odd, mine were tight but didn't even notice whether there was loctite on them. Did you get them out in the end?

Yeah, I took the laptop to my local hardware retailer, who were able to remove the screw using a special tool. No, not a screwdriver.

I'm pretty much up and running again, however, curiously the Dolby v4 Home Theater software is nowhere to be found on Samsung's website; I contacted their tech support and they simply told me that if it's not on the website, it's not avaliable.

I guess I'll have to figure out away to install the Dolby software from my now spare HDD.
