Looking for a cheap secondary 23" monitor. Got a Samsung p2350 right now, but that costs £180/£190 so I don't want to buy another of those. It will be a secondary to replace my 17". I use 'internet mode' on my current screen even for gaming and movies as the brightness is stupidly bright on the other modes for me so not to much of a deal there.

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MO-115-SA The P2370 seems good for the price, only thing what would maybe bother me is it has no tilt and it seems like the position its in could be a issue. Anyone got this monitor and can comment on that?

I do not own it personally but before ordering my new monitor from Overclockers a little while ago I went out to stores to see some monitors in action. My options included the Samsung P2370, their equivalent 22’’ model, the BenQ 2420 and some other monitors I do not believe Overclockers currently carry.

My budget was set to £150, but somewhat flexible if I could not find anything that really satisfied me under that price.

The main reason to actually go out was to check the stands. I do not put a lot of trust in the image quality of a stock screen and the limitations of what you can actually see in store. However one thing that did concern me was the stand quality and the options for tilting and moving around; physical stores are excellent for that.

In the end, the Samsung stands were not to my liking. They are not adjustable in any way. With the size of the prospective pc monitor equalling the size of my television screen, I would rather watch any HD stuff on the pc; thus the need for at least tilting so it is watchable while lying down on the sofa. In addition to the lack of adjusting options, the Samsung monitors’ stands felt decidedly cheaper than the competitors.

My conclusion was to go with the BenQ. It is a little larger, the stand was in my estimation infinitely better and while I have a gut feeling the image quality of the Samsung might be slightly superior, I would not really be able to tell the difference personally outside of actual tests.

Good luck with purchasing decisions, I am sure you will end up with a smashing monitor either way. But if the stand is of a concern to you and you want an adjustable monitor, I would probably rather avoid the Samsung lines coming with stands like the P2370.

I have a samsung p2270hd - these do tilt 0->10-15 degrees I estimate
the mechanism, a bit disguised, is very stiff, and initially you think it may snap;
no height or rotation adjust (so definitely no portrait mode .... but
cleartype does not work in portrait mode anyway)
I think 2370 will adjust in same way
worst aspect for using it as a tv are the viewing angles; it is after all
a TN panel and sitting 2-3 metres a way especially in darkened room
if you are off axis horizontally/vertically result is disappointing but great
from 60-70cm away as a second extended monitor positioned above laptop
(on a big piece of wood for height)

Ok thanks both. Was thinking a bit overnight, the samsung p2350 which is my current one is a great hight on my desk - my eyes line up with the top of the monitor so its not like im hardly looking down. Also when im in bed watching stuff its still fine on the angle. Its also a decent looking monitor

I found the cheapest place for one is £170 so its a bit more then the other ones but i have no complaints with it apart from the dust! So the £40 more I would pay would assure a monitor I know i like and well obviously two of those on a desk next to each other will look good. Will have to put my storm scout onto the floor though :( So i think ill grab one as they are now discontinued so obviously won't be made anymore

Nothing at all wrong with going what you already trust and are comfortable with.

Hope that the Samsungs will continue to serve you well.

I have no first hand experience with this, but from second hand experience it seems that the BenQ warranty support is actually decent, which has surprised me a little. I guess I was just expecting less from a lesser known manufacturing brand, at least less known in mainstream circles.

As for Samsung, I have heard both good and very bad, but I am sure that other users here and elsewhere can fill you in better.

Forgot to update this earlier.

I was on the website where the new monitor would be £170. But they also do used things.

So i bought one for £124. I can't remember exactly what it said about the condition though, it seems like the seller is some sort of shop or something so they had plenty of feedback. I'm sure it was along the lines of ex-display like most of them are, damaged box but product has no scratches and so on. 2 year warranty. As i said i don't NEED a new monitor and its more off a want so the £50 saving from buying a brand new one for me as a 'mid teenager :p' is worth it.

Heard good things about BenQ actually some decent prices.
