I'm after something reasonably large with a decent camera and good screen quality.
It's for general use (web emails WhatsApp etc). Ideally something that is not to fragile (I'm gardener).

So far the Samsung galaxy a34 5g 256gb seems to tick the right boxes.
Does anyone have any experience with this model phone?

Any other recommendations?

Any recommendations on a protective phone cover?

Many thanks

Mangthanks

I'd try and get a Samsung Galaxy A54 5G which I think can be found for ~£250. I've had mine in Awesome Lime for about a year now. It is the perfect mid-range phone. Some light reading below.

Comparison here for the A54 vs S23 FE.

"...the Galaxy A54 is a well-rounded mid-range smartphone with a solid build, an excellent screen, long-lasting battery life, and an overall good camera experience. Its performance is quite alright, too."
Cheers for taking the time to post all this info Firegod! Mug of tea prepped and off to read up on those links

No worries, let me know how you get on!
Will do for sure. I will pop into a local Curries/phone shop this Saturday to have a look touch feel and smell of them...:) Then look for those deals online (like your O2/Samsung deal) for the best possible price.

Apparently the Samsung Galaxy S24 is available for general sale from the 31st January 2024, so it might make sense to hold on for a couple of weeks for any further discounts on the 2023 models....
Sounds like Gtx 4000 super series GPUs...Here we go again :)

I have an A34, it's a very competent phone in all departments
Thanks Dazstoke. This could save me some money, and to be honest, I very been happy using my Galaxy A12 work phone for my needs...a little slow in places but takes great pics/good camera on it

I originally ordered a Nokia G60 which was refunded because they couldn’t deliver. Then ordered a Samsung A33 but returned it when I realised I could get a Samsung A34 for £20 more.

Thats been great recent upgrade to Android 14 has improved battery stand by times in my experience.
Thanks for sharing nlel, I will look into the A34 as you are the second person who has has posted that has had a good experience with it.

How well do these " duel sim" phones work out? I was thinking it would be nice to just use the one phone instead of having two (work and personal). My work phone is used for just basic stuff, including some emails now and again.
Any pros and cons of this duel system?

I have an a34 as well. Got it before Christmas, I have no complaints.

I've already dropped mine once, I do have a case on it, but it seems durable enough. It's all plastic, so no glass back to shatter.
Thanks for the heads up Armadillo.
They seem to be on sale as well, from £350 down to £250 in most big brand shops :)

You guys happy with the camera?

I took a chance and ended up buying a new Samsung Galaxy A12 SM-A125F/DSN - 64GB - Black (Unlocked) (Dual SIM) on ebay for £80 delivered.
Realy happy with purchase/great seller, and was easy to transfer data from old to new phone using smartswitch.

Thank you for all the great advice and recommendations gents which I will use further down the line for sure.

. But the A12 remains the only mobile I have deliberately thrown in frustration (unfortunately, it too was in a Spigen case, so it survived).
That one cracked me up Mercurial....lol

Thank you for such detailed feedback with your phone experiences. Really helpful for when I eventually hammer my A12 to death (wearing full PPE of course).
