hi,ive been given a laptop to look at and see what the problem is with it.

it just wont get to windows at all.

i think it is the h/d which has failed and not making any noise what so ever.

tried the samsung recovery disk but it wont let me into window's to use the disk and it wont even boot into safe mode.

any idea's apart from the h/d failing which wont let the laptop go into windows ?

When you switch the laptop on, what happens exactly?
Where does the boot process stop? Does the laptop even turn on? Does the BIOS get displayed ok?

Try running memtest or something which can cause problems when trying to install/repair things.

the laptop starts and sometimes get's to the user screen.

then it just hangs there.

i personally think it's the h/d full of toot and might be overheating for some reason.

when i leave the laptop of for a while it will get to the user screen but once the h/d gets a bit warm it wont even get to that.

Hmm ok a couple of options you can try next:

1) Download a Linux Live CD (Ubuntu or anything you are comfortable with). Use that to boot (not install) and see if the machine lets you do anything. IF it does then it is possible that it is a HDD problem

2) Download one of the boot/diagnostic CDs which contain a collection of tools to check the CPU, RAM and HDD and even Graphics I think.

I don't know anything about the samsung boot disc. I have no idea what it does or if it reads data from the HDD or anything which is why you will need to use a different disc like I said in my post.

Try the Ultimate Boot Disc http://www.ultimatebootcd.com/download.html
And run the various tools that are on the disc to check your Memory, HDD and CPU.

Or try a Linux Live CD.
