Got one of these at the weekend, so have played with it for a few days now, it's my first laptop.
The only problem I have is the fan noise.
Once warmed up, say about 10, minutes, the fan kicks in for about 20 secs
every 2 minutes.
Is there any way to break such a limit cycle?
I've tried switched to 'SuperSilent mode' to no avail, I've also tried to
throttle back the processor speed via the 'Power Options' settings available in Vista, but this just slows system response and has no effect on fan behaviour.
Do all current laptops behave like this ?
I could tolerate the fan if it engaged when the CPU were under load, but it's the fact that it is active even when the CPU registers just 1-2% than seems excessive.
Could anyone recommend a more thermally competent make/model.
Thanks.
PS. The R700 would seem to have only the one fan. With the hard disk powered down the unit is completely silent - until the 2 mins is up!
