Just bought a new laptop to find 10GB of my hard drive is partitioned off for this restore program.

I've managed to uninstall the software but I can't get my 10GB back. The partition is greyed out as EISA confiutation in Windows disk management.

How can I delete this partition?

Using Vista by the way.

If its anything like the IBM setup, there should be a section in the BIOS for recovery partition/ protected space.
Have a poke around in there & see what you can find :)

Nope no options in bios.

I've just had enough now, I put the Windows cd expecting to be able repartition the dam thing then start again, however it's not even shown under that screen.

What happened to FDISK!?!

Any good free partition managers that are vista compatible?

Hey,

I had this problem on my new sony lappy, i grabbed a copy of the gentoo linux minimal cd around (60mb) download burned the cd booted from it,

Then use the command:

fdisk /dev/sda

then do a 'd' for delete partition and kill them all

then do a 'w' and write the new partition table

take the gentoo cd out and reboot then install windows, worked fine for me :)

did you actually get a recovery disc with this laptop

unless your going to be installing illegal copies of windows (why do this when you get a legal copy of the OS with the laptop) then you'll want to have some way of restoring it

and most laptops that have a 10gb recovery partition dont tend to have recovery CDs ...

Mine seems to have come with a samsung branded version of vista on a cd.

The partition has an "at purchase" image of the hdd on

For future reference for anyone I used the DISKPART software in Windows.

CMD --> DISKPART. Once you've read the help it works very well. You don't even have to reboot.
