Hi, I have XPS L701X win 7 64 bit with nvidia GeForce GT445M. I have set compatibility to vista (service pack2) and run in admin. In nvidia control panel go to display, adjust desktop size and position, then select use nvidia scaling with fixed-aspect ratio.
Or
I also have an Acer Aspire 5742G with a GT540M. I fixed it by complete accident when I was altering the drivers and config files to get F1 2011 running smoothly. I did so by installing the new Intel HD drivers first, found here (get the 32 bit if you need to).
I then downloaded Nvidia drivers 280.26. The installation indicated that it didn't install correctly. However I rebooted, and then my laptop rebooted a second time. After that I fired ahead and added my games on the Nvidia control panel. Runs absolutely perfectly, getting more than 30% FPS increase over the previous setup that was already preinstalled on the laptop.
Hope that helps for anyone with optimus issues*
