Samsung S22A350H

There shouldn't be. What graphics card do you have and how do you have it connected up? Any similar problems with your previous monitor?

hi thanks for your reply. I have it connected to my macbook with a mini DisplayPort to HDMI cable, 1.8m with gold connectors (not that it makes much difference).

but i also tried from my PC using a standard VGA cable with blue ends and it does exactly the same thing. So I could categorically say that it's the monitor? Unless it's some incorrect parameter being sent to it, i did check the refresh rate and changed it from 50Hz to 60Hz but it's still the same :(

EDIT: the gfx card on my PC is the onboard Intel HD2000 (sandy bridge) gfx. my MacBook uses Intel HD3000 (sandy bridge) so it's entirely possible ... mmmm just had a thought .... let me try with a ATI HD5670.

hi and thanks for your reply again. I got the same issue with the AMD dedicated gfx card. Unfortunately.

It's annoying because other than these fuzzy lines, the monitor is great and I want to keep it! I just hope if I RMA it I don't get another one just the same :/

I've tried to sketch up what it's like:

Since you've tried multiple cables and various graphics solutions on different systems it does look like it may be a problem with the monitor itself. A few things I would check first would be that there is no possible interference between the monitor and other devices. The pattern you drew looks slightly like an interference pattern but this may be due to a monitor fault.

The best way to eliminate this, if the monitor is actually fine, would be to isolate the monitor as much as possible. Connect it up to your mac book in an area where there are no other nearby electronic devices (preferably no phones, routers, speakers etc.) and make sure the power cable is firmly connected into the monitor and anywhere else it needs to be connected. Make sure the monitor is as far away from the MacBook as possible. Also ensure that the power cable is the sole device connected to a particular power point when testing. If after this isolation the pattern can still be observed then it is most probably a fault with the monitor itself.

It is good that you like the monitor apart from that. It is a model that one of my colleagues is keen to recommend at the moment for overall price and performance but I haven't tested it myself. Testing or not that doesn't sound like something you should have to put up with and doesn't sound normal. Hope you can get it sorted!

update: I had the monitor replaced for another of the same model. This one actually came with the correct UK power cord but still has lines across the screen. I tried isolating the power supply as much as possible, only thing plugged into the power outlet and going through a surge protector and without a surge protector too but made no difference unfortunately.

I have asked the shop I bought it from to contact Samsung about this one. The fact they accepted the first one as faulty is a start because it's not just my opinion any more. I have had others look at the screen and agree it's not right.

Will update this thread if and when I get more information. I can't be the only one receiving Samsung S22A350 monitors with faint grey lines surely?

I still stick with my original opinion on the monitor though:
* brightness is nice and high
* colours very vibrant and seem accurate compared to some other monitors I use and have seen
* static contrast is great and blacks are deep
* default settings seem fine and calibration probably unnecessary
However, the coating seems really thick compared to normal and gives a slight hazy look like real A4 paper.
