Hi everyone,

After searching numerous forums on 27" monitors, I have set my mind on the 27" Samsung S27A650D

I would have went for the Samsung S27A850 but the higher resolution of 2560x1440 is too much for my eyes.

What I really like about the S27A650D:
Nice and simple design.
MVA Panel
1920x1080
Display Port, DVI-D & VGA connection.

I will be using it to browse on my computer and to watch a lot of movies in 720/1080p. Also going to connect a XBOX 360 via VGA and run it at 1080p.

Can anyone give me a reason why I shouldn't get this monitor?

Please provide your feedback before I place my order for this monitor.

Thanks in advance.

That seems like a very slow response time of 8ms, I'm just wondering how and if that will affect movie play back and gaming. Have you read any reviews?

Potential backlight bleeding, which (reportedly) is pretty common with Samsung TFTs. Probably the #1 reason I'm not buying one (missing HDMI is another, tho).

I found recently that many people are putting videos of their monitors on YouTube. Might be a good place to look if you want to judge for yourself how bad the bleed is.

Thanks guys for all your input.

@spain, I am currently using a Acer AL2671W which has a response time of 16ms and had no problems with playing XBOX 360 or watching HD movies.

The only gaming on the PC I might do is Solitaire now and then!

@FoxEye, the problem with bleeding seems to be associated with most LED LCD panels! I was going to go for either a PLS/IPS panel but they also have the 'glow' effect on the screen.

ANYONE with the S27A650D with little or no bleeding and generally happy with the monitor?

The fact is there is always cons and pros with any device and it is a matter of weighing them. If there is a chance of me receiving a unit with low/none bleeding, I am willing to take the chance.

I always try and search for Youtube videos to get an idea, but I only found a few small clips of the S27A650D.

Thanks.

Most LCD panels in general, actually. VA panel monitors tend to be much better when it comes to black uniformity and they are natively much better at uniformly blocking light. http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showpost.php?p=20409799&postcount=4. I haven't used any members of the Samsung SA650 series but it would be a little disappointing if it suffered in this one particular area where VA panels are traditionally very strong (regardless of backlight type).

Thanks PCM2 for your input.

I have spent too much time looking for the perfect monitor and I don't think one exists!

I am just going to wait for some feedback from the Samsung A650D owners regarding the bleeding and based on that either order it or cross it off from the list.

Yeah I understand the frustration. Realising you won't get perfection is always an important first step though. For your needs I would think the Samsung is a good choice - I generally find VA panels quite agreeable except for their responsiveness. It seems that for your uses that won't be an issue. Have you also considered the BenQ EW2730? It doesn't offer the same flexibility as the Samsung but I know the backlight is supposed to be uniform for blacks on that one and it should work well for your uses.
