bought this monitor last week from ocuk and so far so good, ive been looking around the web for settings i can try and a few ive seen suggests changing the hdmi black level but whatever setting i have it on be it via hdmi or displayport the hdmi black level is greyed out and not an option, any thoughts anyone

Google 'samsung s27a750d review' and use the settings from the top review. 
Setting HDMI black levels is something designed for connection to non-PC devices which use a different colour signal. Do that on a PC and all you do is mess up the low-end gamma of 'near black' shades and end up crushing blacks and dark shades; losing dark detail. You want to set MagicAngle to 'GroupView' instead. Much better results both technically and in practice.
