Hi guys,

Finally decided to upgrade my first gen Hazro 24" to dwell in the 120Hz world.

Unfortunately my 2x 460's in SLI only have mini HDMI and DVI-D outputs.

I've hooked the monitor up HDMI to mini-HDMI and HDMI to DVI-D (with a HDMI cable and suitable adaptors) and it works fine but only at 60Hz. As I understand from some forum search this monitor only outputs 120Hz via Displayport.

I bought a Displayport to HDMI adaptor and also a Displayport to DVI-D cable and hooked these up but neither of these work. Interestingly the monitor does detect some sort of a signal since it goes black screen where as if I unplug it it says no signal. Any ideas?

I'm just understanding that there are active and passive adapters and wondering if this has anything to do with it. I pressume the cable/adaptor I've tried so far are passive (not sure on the adapter front though).

I've hooked the monitor up with the included Displayport cable to my laptop with a Displayport output and it works fine at 120Hz.

Any help greatly appreciated.

PS: Super impressed with the monitor's image quality coming from a good and calibrated IPS panel.

I think the main issue is that the adapters (active or not) are DisplayPort to DVI/HDMI and not the other way around.

What you would need is a dual link DVI to DisplayPort adapter supporting 120Hz.

I have seen dual link DVI to DisplayPort adapters but they cost $150-£200 and I'm not even sure if they support 120Hz.

This monitor has major issues with the displayport anyways so to use an adapter in the displayport I wouldn't recommend. Infact I'm surprised companies are still selling this monitor the amount of people with issues is ridiculous. I guess it's reflected in the price that's why the higher model SA950D which has the DVI and a more premium casing is twice the price.

I either invest in a signal converter from Startech (HDMI® or DVI to DisplayPort® Active Converter) or I upgrade my SLI 460GTX's to something with the same beef & displayport output...

Question is, is the converter which can be had for ~£60 if you shop around + second hand cost of 2x GTX 460's significantly different than cost of a new GFX card with similar beef...

You can provide the model number of the converter.

I'd be interested to see what it is as I can only see DisplayPort to something converters not something to DisplayPort.

Google this "Startech HDMI or DVI to DisplayPort Active Converter". They're available for £60ish if you shop around.

I don't know why you're being so obscure about it.

Anyway....

They only work up to 1920x1200 @ 50/60Hz so won't support 1920x1080 @ 120Hz.

I think you'll find that this monitor is probably more trouble than it's worth. Currently it has numerous displayport issues (even if your graphics card does have a displayport output). You could possibly just buy an AMD card instead and find it works okay, but what about in the future if you decide to upgrade your graphics card?

From what I gather Samsung are well aware of the issues with this monitor; we will probably see a new revision of it surface sometime in the near future.

Probably better off finding an alternative monitor to be honest! Which is a shame because the 950D is double the price, and the others aren't as nice panels as the Samsungs (with the possible exception of the Benq, but that's 24" instead of 27").

Ooops, good spot, I missed that... I'll have to return it then! Was too trigger happy on the old mouse.

I'd rather not return it on the basis that the image quality really is exceptional for a TN panel (coming from a IPS myself!), I like the overall design including thin bezel and there's limited choice. There's only Iiyama, Asus and Samsung and only the Iiyama is close on price. I think I'm going to stick with it and wait for the 700series Nvidia cards to upgrade.

Btw, it's running 85Hz ok via HDMI, so I'll settle for 40% improvement for now!

Get the S23A700D.

Exactly the same screen as the 750, except it's a typical bezel & stand, includes DVD-D & costs a hell of a lot less.
