Samsung screen blacking out

Hey all, I had spare cash lying around so I decided to upgrade my old 19'' monitor to a 22'' Samsung. Firstly I tried DVI but no luck. I then tried VGA and it was fine, however I couldn't use the native resolution 1680 x 1050. I tried NVIDIAS custom resolution but the closest resolution I could get to was 1600 x 1050 which was fine. I then tried Team Fortress 2 for the first time on this new monitor, I played for about half an hour and it blacked out. I thought it was a one off, I tried again later but still had the same problem. I'm currently using Windows 7 and my graphics card is 7900gs, old, but for what I use it for it's done me pretty well. I have updated the drivers for this graphic card but still no luck. Is the monitor too much for this graphics card to handle? If yes what graphics card would be suitable? Thanks in advance

my samsung monitor t240 red rose, it too goes black but not randomly or when the map chances etc it normally does it on starting the PC or on lunching a game (that chances reslolution) or exiting (if resolution is quite different) say form full HD to something lower.

Oh, i'm currently using Samsung SM2243BW. When it happened this time I could tab out of it.

apprently that is normal for any TFT althrough some don't do it at all, no idea why they do it ethoir.

as for yours if its not making any sound and looks okay back light working etc than I would say nothing to worry about however it seems strance btw 7900GS is a little old isnt it :O

*edit* if you wanted to upgrade and stay with Nvida you could get a 9800GT or GTX that card will be able to handle the resloultion better...but like you said, if you needed to, for gaming that might be a bit too much for that card.
