Looking to buy a 24" but which one?

Do either do pixel mapping by the way? Some people say ya, whilst others say nay.

Have thought about the L2442W (read all the posts - almost got one on day one of weekend sales, lol) but not too impressed on the stand etc. Out of the 3, I would imagine it has the best screen, but for now it looks like a toss up between the Sammy or the Dell.

I don't play hardly any games but do like watching the odd video (HD & SD) now and again.

neither the E248WFP or SM245B feature aspect ratio control at a hardware level afaik (Samsung def doesn't, I've tested it). both are going to be very comparable in terms of performance though when it comes down to it.

Thats pretty much what I thought looking at the specs.

Top quality great delivery service. This monitor supports 1:1 pixel mapping for both DVI and VGA. Try it with a HD Trailer from the internet amazing!

Wardo, does say though, regarding the Dell that it does support pixel mapping. So can this be taken as gospel, has he actually tried it, and if so, how?

Was hoping that someone in the UK (Overclockers maybe?) was going to have in stock/sell Lenovo's L220x, but it doesn't look like it will happen any time soon. :(

playing an HD trailer from the internet proves nothing, since the monitor is still being fed overall a 1920 x 1200 res from the graphics card. The HD trailer can run at whatever it likes, the graphics card will just add borders where applicable. you'd need to test with an external source, like a DVD player or something, or play a game where the input res is different to the monitor's native res.

Way to check would be to see if scaling options are listed in the OSD

edit: found the manual for the E248WFP, looks like it DOES have aspect ratio control:

Adjust the image ratio as 1:1, 4:3, 16:9 or Fill (full screen).

Am I right in thinking that the Dell E248WFP is a PVA panel, whereas the Samsung SM-245B is a TN panel?

I saw the 245B in a shop yesterday, and I don't like it much - you seem to have to look at the screen from directly in front to get a good picture - the vertical viewing angle is terrible. Also, the stand doesn't allow much control over movement.

I was actually toying with getting the newer Dell E2407WFP-HC, but as I'm slightly colour-blind, I don't think I'd actually notice the difference. I think I've settled on the E248WFP.

Edit : It appears I was wrong - the E248WFP is a TN panel after all.

yep, both are TN Film, and I'm quite confident they are both using the same Samsung TN Film panel at that. Performance is going to be very comparable between the two, from a panel point of view. They have different features and design obviously, so that would probably be the deciding factor here

Delivered today, ;) unpacked and up and running in 5mins, after an initial couple of mins warming up, I have to say a great looking monitor. :D

Not the best when looking from the side, but for me sat in front, its brill.
No dead pixels, so pleased about that.

Still need to play around withe the colour settings etc, but out of the box setting not too bad.

Having moved up from a 3 year old Samsung 17", which by the way had very good viewing angles (170 degrees), was so dull in comparison to this. Was also worried it wouldn't fit on my smallish desk, but in actual fact is a perfect fit. ;)

If I can get my card reader to function I'll post some pics, if anyones interested.
