I'm interesting in buying the above phone (link below) and have a question about it's GPS.

The phone comes with GPS hardware, and also Google maps. However I would like to install GPS software that works off-line, and can be installed via my PC. I only have a basic sim only contract, and don't wish to pay extra for data.

The GPS applications would be hiking, or city maps with postcode search. I'm not looking for anything fancy, just basic top down map location views. I already have a TomTom for car navigation.

If anyone has experience of the phone, in particular it's GPS would appreciate any advice.

Cheers
Jason

First of all you do not want that phone (unless it needs to be one of them rough and tough phones) :D

if its offline GPS maps you want then you probably want something from Nokia for ovi maps

I like durable and functional phones, hence it got my attention. Currently I'm using a Nokia 6310i.

I'm a software developer, and had a time working with mobile phone apps. Most of the new phones feel cheap.

I had a newer 3G Nokia, but it broke and had firmware issues, in short it never functioned as phone, i'll never touch Nokia again after that.

This phone will do it, providing I can download GPS software.
