Which one is a better buy? I intend on playing game, watching movies alongside regular tv. Thanks.

From what ive read, the samsung is slightly better (winning all manner of awards), it is also vastly more expensive. From what i recall, its a good 30-40% more expensive than the Sony.

The samsung isnt 30-40% better than the Sony though.

Personally i would go the Sony route as it can be had for around £1100 now and thats pretty good value. There are lots of very happy people who own this set.

I was going to buy this tv, however, ive just moved into my new home and i have to get the ceilings sound proofed first, hence, ive delayed the tv purchase for around 4-6 months. By that time the Sony SXRD tvs will be released. And these tvs are believed to be superior to anything the uk has ever seen. The 55" model is estimated to retail for around £2200.

If you need to buy right now, have you thought about the Sagem 56" tvs? These can be had for less than the price of the Samsung 50" that you have listed above, but has slightly better image quality. Also its a larger screen. The problem with the Sagems are that they have a high percentage of sets that are faulty, so you have to persevere until you get one that works 100% right. a lot of people do persevere with the Sagems because for the price, their image quality is so damn good.

Thanks man, im gonna go do a quick research on the sagem.

EDIT
just checked out the auxim. I originally had it on my list but decided against it because of the name and pedigree. There is also report of that particular model having plenty of Rainbow effect - Something sony claimed to have eliminated via 3lcd system.

Indeed Sony's tv uses 3lcd. It is not a DLP tv, hence, no rainbow effect. The Samsung also is a DLP, hence can suffer from the rainbow effect. Keep that in mind.

Also check out this link.

Edit: I just saw this thread, which means you can get the 56" Sagem for £1224 delivered. Thats a fantastic price. My only reservation against the Sagem tvs are that they seem to have so many faults with them. The Sony tvs meanwhile are virtually fault free.

well i have the KDFE50A12U and it is a fantastic unit (I've had this TV for almost 6 months). I think there is a newer version which just has more inputs on it.

The unit handles fast moving images really well and I use it for both my HTPC and XBOX 360. Plus this TV can now be had from as little as £999 which is a bargin for a big screen TV of this size. :D

I would never touch a Sony again after the problems I had with a KP41DS1 (many moons ago), I have the Samsung SP50L6HDX and I'm very happy with it.

I think that the SP50HLX and SP50L6HDX are pretty similar, the SP50HLX just has most of the guts in the stand where the SP50L6HDX is a standalone.

The PQ is great and it's awesome with my Xbox 360!
