Hi i was looking for a new monitor and have the samsung syncmaster bx2450 in mind has any one got one on here or know anything about them all the reviews ive read are fairly positive and are overclockers getting any in

There are a number of threads on the forums recommending it. Here's a relatively recent one: http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18220508&highlight=bx2450+username_pcm2.

The thing to remember about it is that firstly the build quality is very nice and that goes for the stand as well as the screen itself. The stand is not at all adjustable (it doesn't even tilt) so bear that in mind. The image that the BX2450 displays is quite 'natural' in that colours are reasonably accurate within the sRGB colour gamut. In short; things can appear a little muted rather than vibrant although the variation in colours is most impressive for a panel of the BX2450's type. You can use MagicColor or manually tweak the RGB controls if you would like a bit of extra vibrancy at the expense of accuracy.

OcUK don't stock it and I don't think they plan to. If you can find it for under £200 it's a good deal (it used to cost £260) but I wouldn't pay any more than that. I would also have a think about cheaper alternatives if you prefer a vibrant image and aren't too fussed about a chrome-topped stand.

Thank you for the reply is there any good monitors for around the £250 mark my main uses will be gaming, blu ray etc ;)

one alternative i have found was the Asus VG236HE is this monitor a good alternative in your opinion i know it is 120hz and that should be good for the gaming side of things :)

It depends on your system and the games you play. If you can disable vsync and see the FPS counter frequently exceeding 100fps it may be particularly worthwhile. If your average framerate is somewhere around 60fps or lower then it would be a waste of money unless you are interested in stereoscopic 3D gaming as well. I haven't used the VG236HE so I can't draw a complete comparison but I would suggest you consider a screen like the Samsung XL2370 if you want to splash out around £200 and your system isn't pumping out super-high framerates. There is a full review of the XL2370 on my website, which was published a while ago. Although the monitor is not the newest thing the image quality is exceptional for a panel of its type and I have yet to use a monitor that's given such a well-rounded entertainment experience for that kind of money.

That is an impressive review and i had a quick look round the net and it seems they all echo what you said ive never really viewed frame rates in my games but my system plays crysis fine havent tried a newish game like metro 2033 yet im running a i7 920 overclocked to 3.6ghz on a p6t deluxe v2 mobo 6gb ram and a xfx 4890 but im upgrading to the evga 570 gtx oc edition soon
