Samsung T5 - Slow Transfer Speeds

Just bought a 1TB Samsung T5 External SSD and have a slight issue with transfer speeds...I'm only getting 50-60MB/sec using the included USB-C cable.

I've tried reformatting from the default exFAT to NTFS to see if that made any difference but still getting the same speeds.

Has anyone else had any issues with this?

Hi Marty,

What sort of USB port have you got the T5 plugged into? I believe the T5 will only operate at its fastest speeds when using USB 3.1 Gen 2 (Please see https://www.tomshardware.com/uk/news/difference-between-usb-3.1-gen1-usb-3.1-gen2,36941.html for an explanation)

If your mobo doesnt support gen 2,you can buy a plug in PCIe card to get the best from your T5.
