hey guys,
I've just managed to get my Samsung LE40R74BD
Trouble is the picture doesn't seem to be all that great.
On DTV it looks quite blurred
On DVD it looks better as you'd expect but it the picture is quite grainy (this is on HDMI). Samsung DVR - 136 i believe...
Is there something i'm doing wrong or is this just what it looks like?
I'm getting sky HD soon so i hope that improves the picture quality improves.

Another thing, does anyone know how i can connect a 5.1 creative sound system (from my computer) to this tv?

if anyone can help me that would great!
thanks,
Jim

Graininess is a sure fire sign "sharpness" is too high. If it's at 100% reduce it down, to 50% or even lower. Also reduce contrast as that can make everything look fake loooking, if a white screen in dimly lit room burns your retinas it's too high.

Avia DVD would be a good purchase.

I wouldn't use the onboard sound on the TV. You need to take outputs from the TV into your PC speakers. Read the manual concerning audio outputs and use correct cables.

The built in speakers are quite good in this TV considering there size and spec. If you have an external amp and speaker setup then get them hooked up but I wouldn't upgrade for the sake of it. (Unless you are actively seeking better quality?)

First thing I would ask regarding the picture quality would be: How far away from the TV are you viewing it?

it's about 5 meters away but putting it on a wall mount soon and it should be about 6-7.
It shouldn't look noticeably bad from 5 metres away.

The Samsung LCD's are a little blurry looking with SD content though so perhaps this is what your experiencing?

I would also hazard a guess that the settings have not been calibrated, doing so will help a lot.
