Samsung U28D590 Not Working?

Hi guys,

I purchased my Samsung U28D590 a few weeks ago from ocuk of course, love the Harribo :D I'm having an issue where the monitor doesn't display anything once my computer has been shut down for a short while, a simple restart of the computer solves this problem and the monitor starts to display the image again. The issue remains whether the monitor is turned off or left on standby and I have no idea why.

Does anyone have any ideas on what I can try? I can't see what would be causing this.

The only thing I can think is it may be the graphics card that's the issue, my graphics card is a Sapphire R9 290 Tri-X OC with the latest BIOS from Sapphire. I use the card in UEFI and the DisplayPort 1.2

Any help would be much appreciated.

Cheers, Fenza

Sorry I didn't make myself clear. I meant that once my computer has been turned off for a short while, when I come to turn it back on that's when the monitor fails to display anything. The computer boots up working normal, ASRock DrDebug thing doesn't display any messages, but the monitor doesn't receive any signal. The monitor will power on but only displays a blank screen.

The reason I say once it's been shut down for a short while is If I turn the computer back on without much of a wait then the problem doesn't arise.

Thanks for the responses and any insight.

Hi, Take the power cable out the back of the monitor and pop it back in. This has happened to myself once did the cable thing hasnt happened since.
Obviously check all cables are tightly fitted, maybe re-install fresh gpu driver.

Hi shaddychopper, thanks for the help, I'll try the cables and reinstall the gpu driver. I'll also try using the onboard graphics see if that changes anything. It's difficult to test though because it doesn't always do it, only seems to be once my computer has been sat turned off for an hour or longer.

Ok guys I have a bit of news regarding this. I have 3 Windows OS installed on my computer, Windows 7 on a HDD that I use for my general storage, then Windows 7 on a 100gig partition of my 500gig SSD, and windows 8 as my main OS on 400 gig partition on my main SSD.

The Issues I've been experiencing haven't shown up when using windows 7 on either my Main SSD or my HDD but do occur on my windows 8 so I don't think my monitor will be the issue, maybe drivers?. I have noticed that my monitor displays the BIOS screen thing and POST but when windows boots nothing is displayed and my monitor has actually gone into standby at this point!

I'll give onboard graphics a try now, see what happens. I haven't had much time recently but have a few hours over the weekend :)

Any input is much appreciated.

Cheers, Fenza.

has anyone found a better fix for the monitor freezing up other than unplugging it and plugging it back in again

Since getting a 290 I've been having the same issues with a dated Dell monitor. This is on Windows 7 not 8. I've found switching the monitor off and on again fixes it detecting the input. However I never had to do this before using my old GPU.

I can only assume it is a minor driver issue.

Common problem with these 4K panels unfortunately :| mine (AOC) sometimes goes blank and disappears from the OS entirely (I have a second panel hooked up as well) seems to be some bug with the built in power saving. Quite annoying in the middle of a game for instance.

Thanks for all your inputs. I've recently found that more often than not the PC doesn't actually POST, but if I wait 2-3 minutes it will eventually POST O.o ??? Would this be an issue related to Windows 8 or the hardware? I may try a reinstall of Windows to see if that fixes anything.

I think I had a similar issue a couple of years back and it turned out to be a loose connection to one of the SSDs. It may be worth a look at your SATA ports to make sure no cables are misaligned/loose.

Just for future reference my monitor is mostly fine now with Windows 8.1 and and my R9 290 never black screens any more. I never did figure out the issue.

Do you have an R9 290? I have no issues now other than an occasional small line flash across my screen, kind of like a artefact while overclocking GPU but mines stock clocks (for now).
