Samsung U32D97KQSR

It's more about the panel I think. The 32 comes with a PLS panel with is just exquisite for colour reproduction and viewing angles.

Agreed that the price is utterly ridiculous but I think we could find 32 inch 4K becoming a "norm" in the next year or so - like 27 inch 1440p or 23/24inch 1080p and with that hopefully a bit of competition and price drop.

The specs do look great.
I don't think I'll be able to wait for any price drops as my monitor is on it's way to the grave yard. It's expensive, but then sometimes you get what you pay for.

Don't buy yet!
As I am only listing it online as a favour to Samsung. But have asked them how they expect to compete against BenQ and LG who have similar solutions for around £1000.

I've told Samaung I want a far better buy price and they will come back to be next week, so give it a few days before you order one.

Samsung are making 30 for UK market this year and I've put my name against them all. :)

Thanks for the "heads up" Gibbo.

No problem.

This is how we differ from other retailers, we will actively give the manufacturer a good reason as to why they should lower their MSRP right from the start to try and get price right from start. :)

Samsung + 4K + PLS would almost justify that price in my experience, almost. Probably a tough sell to people who don't have experience of Samsung PLS side by side with the typical BenQ panels though :S

What do you mean by 'the typical BenQ panels'. Their comparable models use AHVA, which in my experience is every bit as good as PLS. :) Maybe you meant the Innolux 28" TN panels?

Where this monitor differs is that it has a GB-LED backlight (wide colour gamut) and an exceptional range of presets with specific colour industry standards in mind. There is a lot to this monitor that won't really appeal to the general consumer and wouldn't justify the purchase over the BenQ BL3201PT. But there are definitely advantages to this model for those that need such features.

I've always liked BenQ's built quality and feature set but they seem to have some kind of bias for overly bright and vivid displays at the cost of more subtle image quality and accuracy - might keep the casual consumer happy but I've never been able to get anything out of any of their panels I've used that I'm happy with.

That isn't the case with their AHVA or indeed AMVA+ panels. They give users plenty of control over the image and usually have quite good gamma tracking using the correct 'Gamma' mode. It's only really their TN panels which are configured poorly.

I've played with more than just their TN panels - same deal also seems to go also for their projectors - even ones based on the same chipset as comparable optomas have a very different look.

End of the day might just be personal preference but I'd happily pay almost twice as much for a good Samsung over a BenQ panel heh.

Not as many as me I can assure you. ;) It isn't just preference though, it's measurable that they do a very good job with the AHVA models so far. And the BL3201PT is almost certainly going to be configured with colour accuracy in mind given its market position.

Not played with their VA panels, fair bit of experience with their TN and IPS panels (we sell them at work) never found them to my liking.

Which IPS panel, if you don't mind me asking? The BL2411PT? If so I'd agree that some colours are a a bit off but it's the same with all models using that panel. The only AHVA model currently is the BL2710PT which has no such issues. Likely more representative of the BL3201PT.

The Samsung, though, will be a 'colour machine' so to speak. :p

Its more of a general impression from seeing various models side by side with Samsung, Dell, etc. over the years and being very impressed with the PLS panel I do have. I might be unfairly judging the BenQ BL3201PT having never actually seen one myself.

I've been very impressed with Samsung monitors in general as well. Still got my old S27A750D. Much nicer image than any of these new 144Hz models. ;)
