Helloes,

I currently own a viewsonic 17" standard aspect monitor and to be honest i am very happy with its performance and size. However i do plan on buying a PS3 at some point in the near future and the monitor i currently have lacks hdcp so i will need to upgrade it if i want to connect the console to my monitor.

A housemate of mine has the Samsung SM-226BW and it seems very good, but a little big for my tastes. I tend to find the larger the monitor the more obvious graphics flaws are if you aren't running the game at the monitors optimum resolution and my 7800 isn't getting any younger. So i was pondering whether the 20" would be a better option for me, the height of the monitor is the same as a 17" standard aspect so i'm not losing any screen size there and it's more within the price range i'm looking to spend.

My main concern however is i've read that a PS3 will show black borders at the top and bottom of the screen on most monitors, will i need to get a 22" monitor in order to negate the borders to fully enjoy playing a PS3 on it or are they not that noticable?

Oh and, i assume the pebble monitor would be a better choice than the standard samsung monitors?

Essentially 20" and larger will be 1680 x 1050, and so you'll need a powerful card, lower detail or older games.

I have a Samsung 226CW and it is very nice, after calibration.

I ran my 226BW from a 7800GTX for over a year. Great combo.

I also used PS3 with this monitor via an HDMI => DVI cable and it works fine. The panel scales it to fit, so no black borders. Not true HD though so whilst image is good, not as sharp as 720p/1080p display.
