Any idea on when the Samsung XL30 will be released? Looking for a new monitor and was gonna get me one of those 42" Samsung local dimming LED LCD's but I think I have come to my senses and realised sitting 3 feet away from a 42" LCD can't be good for my eyes ;) Was gonna buy the NEC 26" or the Samsung 305T but while reading up about them I saw references to this Samsung XL30 which looks a really good monitor. Thought I can wait a little while longer to get this Samsung. Have had a look around on google but can't seem to find when it is gonna be released. Anyone here know?

I've never used an LCD monitor before so you guys are gonna have to help me about one thing. When it says the native resolution is 2560x1600 does that mean I HAVE to use that resolution or will a lower resolution work equally as well? I can't remember where but I'm sure I once read if you run an LCD at a lower resolution the picture doesn't come out very clear. Is that true or my mind just making random rubbish up! I might wanna play games at a lower resolution if my system can't handle it at full whack but will that mean the graphics won't come out properly? Don't wanna be in a position where I have to replace my GFX card every few years because it won't run games at that resolution! Or I might have to buy another 8800gtx and run it in SLi to support it! Also if you run it at say 1920x1080 would the picture be stretched out to fit or will there be black boxes around the picture?

Thanks in advance :)

A lot of questions there mate,

but the samsung should be out sometime toward the end of the year, but having said that samsung are always late.

playing out of native resolution on a native 2560x1600 is always going to be blurry, and less sharp than native. The current 30" screen do not have monitor scaling, so all scalling is done by gfx card.

to be honest non native resolution is not too bad, but i got the impression that you have a gtx, which should be ok for 2x with 4AA at native resolution on most games with playable frame rates. you could also play 1280x800 which will not be out of resolution either, but games don't look great at this resolution for me, when you get used to gaming at native 2560x1600 u just cant go back.

i am about to get a gtx and will get another for sli a little later.

just out of interest do you have the exact screen model of the samsung LED LCD you was looking out, i personaly am leaning toward a 37-42" lcd but with lower resolution as i don't require all this desk space.

Thanks for the quick reply :)

Was hoping that Samsung would be out sooner! You are right I do have the 8800gtx and maybe I need to look at some reviews more but 2500x1600 is a hell of a resolution and I'm not sure how well even the 8800gtx will cope with that in coming years! Unless I'm mistaken a 2500x1600 has twice as many pixels as 1600x1200 and running at that resolution can be demanding! Though I'm not 100% sure how it works with widescreens though. So even if I can run at a lower resolution and get a decent picture I'd be happy with that. I'd rather not buy another GFX card tbh.

As for the other LCDs, I haven't got the exact model number as I don't think it has been released yet but there is a long thread about the US version of this LCD http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=788306 I imagine our version will be quite similar. Some info here http://www.avforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=493045 and if you look deep in http://www.avforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=481233 you will find some info there.
