Before I decide to just go for a 1080p and wait a few years for 4k to produce more.
Is it worth spending the extra couple hundred quid and getting a 4k, this the samsung SAMSUNGUE48HU7500 the best value at the moment ?

Hi,

I have just bought this TV and I have to say I am very impressed.
Initially I wasn't planning to go for a 4K set but didn't realise they had come down so much in price. When I looked into it, this and the Panasonic 50AX802B were the two that seemed to be best at the price point.
I looked at both in-store and they both seemed to have an impressive picture, albeit running the usual attract mode stuff.
In the end, the Samsung seemed to offer more for the money in that it has 4x HDMI v2 ports, superior smart features and has the upgrade port to give some limited future proofing.
While I agree that it is by no means essential to go 4K at present, if you are looking at spending good money on a TV anyway, why not go for something that is using the latest technology.
Still tweaking about with mine but watched Jurassic Park 3D on Blu Ray the other night and the upscaled 3D picture was fantastic.

A good comparison is the 46H7000 (£899) and the 48HU7500 (£1249)

For £350 you're getting 2 extra inches and 4K.

reviews at hdtvtest show that the H7000 has very marginally (subjective) better PQ overall, but I doubt this will have any realistic impact on viewing

Even having just read a bit about how 4K is still so far off widespread adoption, if it was me and I could stretch to £1249 then I'd go for the 4K as a TV of this size and quality should last a fair few years.

Only caveat is if you are really fussy about black levels then the money is better spent on OLED, by far
