San Andreas Crashing when icon is clicked.

Hey guys, problem is pretty much in the title...fresh install of SA, click on the icon, computer waits a second, then i get an error, just a generic windows one with the send error report thing.....anyone have any ideas?

Specs.
AMD 3500+
DFI ULtra-D NF4
1 GB Corsair
X1800XT

i cant find jack on the interent, type anything with san andreas and crashing, brings loads of useless junk, like videos and guides on how not to crash and what not...

this is a fresh install, no mods installed or anything.

patch is installed, but that doesnt help anything....this is very strange as this is the second game that wont play when clicking on the icon..(other is Silent Hunter 3) all my other games work fine, but SA does not.

ok thats not the problem at all....ive formatted twice in the last day, after every format GTA:SA and other games work perfectly, thats without installing updates, i install updates and bang they no longer work..Added to my DEP (who needs this anyway), still didnt work....ive disabled it....it still doesnt work..anyone else got anything i can try?

Has it worked before?

GTA:SA has a known issue where it can't authenticate the DVD on quite a few DVD drives (even with firmware updated in some cases).

yes it works on a fresh install of Windows, but as soon as ive done the updates and whatever, and installed all the other stuff, it then refuses to work....really annoying me.

In that case it might be the tedious task of installing each update one at a time to find the culprit.
