San Andreas Crashing

For what ever reason my version of San Andreas will not load. It gets to the title screen after the videos then just ctd. its really starting to pee me off.

list of things that i have done:
- Re-installed about 4 times
- Applied 3 different no-cd patches and 2 standard CD patches
- Applied 1.01 patch
- Cleaned up registry
- Applied new catalyst drivers (6.11)
- Re-installed directx 9.0c

It has worked before.. but that was before I went dual screen, I know there are some issues with dual screen but I thought the 1.01 patch was meant to fix this. But I know its nothing to do with that as I have disabled one and tried running it, same problem just ctd. :(

Any help would be appreciated

I can't help but i am having similar problems. It was working fine when i first got it but none of my other games would work with those drivers. So i install different drivers and my other games work fine. Now San Andreas refuses to start, even when i change back to the old drivers :(

I launch the game (either by the shortcut or from the autorun cd) but it reads the cd and then nothing happens. It's like it doesn't even attempt to start. I've tried loads of different stuff to try to get it working but none have worked. I think i'm gonna reformat and see what happens.

have you deleted "gta_sa.set" in "\my documents\gta san andreas user files"?

:)
O M G ! That was so simple!

I love you :D It's a shame that i'm out all weekend and can't play it :(

as you can probably guess, that file stores your settings so any graphics/custom key settings etc will need to be setup again. :)

My guess is you have nForce chipset. If you do then un-install the S/W ide drivers. Don't even ask how long it took me to discover that.

:p

S/W ide drivers??

EDIT: Not even generic ones work, still same problem.

LOL

just thought its on my Spinspoint which is SATA with a no-cd patch so the IDE drivers wouldnt have done anything noticeable

Sorry guys, but I can say for certain that the software IDE drivers used to cause me problems on my nforce board when playing San Andreas. There is nothing inherently wrong with the S/W IDE drivers. If I install a really old version of them then San Andreas is fine. The latest IDE drivers work flawlessly with every other application, programs and windows. I used to have the same problem with Vice City on my Nforce2 motherboard as well. Seems to be a rockstar thing. If it isn't your s/w drivers I can g'tee it will be one of your mobo drivers that San Andreas doesn't like. I hate Rockstar games for crashing.

If you can be bothered uninstall your mobo drivers and reinstall a driver set before or around the date San Andreas was released. Or play a different game.

Was I right about you having an nForce mobo then?

i just completely reformated  now it works :p

oh well needed to do that anyway to take a harddrive out. complained when i took it out last time :(. but works now. and most motherboards these days are either intel or nforce so it was a 50/50 chance

i actually dont believe this..

after installing some programs and eventually getting round to playing SA i was over the moon.. this morning i had installed a few more programs and now it is now longer working.. coming back with the exact same crash it did yesterday before the reformat
