Here for a few days. Off to see some big naval stuff tomorrow and nose around, but first impressions are nice and what incredible weather!

Anyone got any recommendations for things to see/do?

Rodeo booked for Friday, Big Country shirt packed so I fit in obviously and now Ive seen Yellowstone I am of course 75% cowboy....I mean cow person.

For me the Zoo is overated. Been twice it's good but been better and it's expensive. Did a boat tour around the bay and that really really was excellent (takes you past all the naval yards, when i went 2 aircraft carriers parked up and a few of the old crusiers, a few stealth ships (Zumwalt-class) and an absolute ridiculous ammouint of other ships)

The aircraft carrier is "ok" but for me by by far the best museum ship I have been is the USS Alabama in Mobile Alabama. Just lost 7 hours there very few parts cordoned off you just get lost on the ship

the bar from the original top-gun (the one at the end of the film with the jukebox) is an operating pub and is worth a visit if you are into that sort of thing

i did. it’s not what i expected but it was fun. The bar staff were smashed and one of the girls behind the bar wasn’t shy on hitting on some of the female customers.

How was it generally, @Housey?
What I saw of the city I liked. It felt safe, has a lovely climate and some great places to socialise. The harbour area where we were based was a nice place to chill out and enjoy a drink or two and being a naval history geek I did find all the navy stuff interesting. Not that I got a lot of time to explore the little I did do was good fun and just walking around it felt modern, clean and nice, which many US cities don't. Long way to go but great place to start a road trip I felt. Flying in is different as you come in through the city, reminds me of Kai Tak in Hong Kong.

I didn't have any of that, actually it was pretty quiet when I was there, and appeared to just have a few regulars.

Yeah airport is pretty much right on the edge of the city, so short time to get to/from.

French/Lamp quarter (?) is nice spot, loads of restaurants and bars. Down towards the harbour there is a touristy shoppe village type place which you can spend a little time. We did the city hop on/off tour, which was good, it included taking you over the parabolic type bridge to Coronado. Climatewise it's a very temperate city, and they really don't usually get big rain.I like it.
