Hi good folks.
I've ordered the San Francisco from Orange and should recieve it today.
I have asked for my old number to be transfered to a Sim Only card. Is that wise ? Should I of had a New number. Will my old sim Card (pay as you go) still work. In other words, If I keep my old phone as a stand by, will I be able to use the same number in both phones?? Should I phone them and tell them I want a new number instead. ??

I'm going to Unlock it, later tonight, or tomorrow.

Thanks.
Dennis

Once they transfer your number to the new sim card your old one will no longer work, so no you won't be able to use the number on both phones :(

OK THANKS...I phoned Orange and the nice bloke the other side has changed it all for me. I keep my old number on this sim card and I get a new number with new sim card. I'll keep the old Sim in old phone for Emergencies.
Not changed my phone in 9 years. All these icons are going to flumux me for a while, so plenty of practise is in the pipeline.
Cheers.

£79..I told them I was a Loyal Orange Customer and could I have the £30 discount that my friend had. The man said YES!.£109 if bought in shop.
What surprises me though is that if you want internet it's an extra £5 a month + if you want email that's another £5 per month. That's a Rip Off in my book as Email is free on internet on PC.

Should I test my phone out before I unlock it ? or should I unlock it first.?

Just unlock it straight away .. did mine 5 minutes after opening the box.

If your not happy with what you get on orange, 3 do pay as you go £10 top ups now worth 300 any network minutes, 3000 texts and 500MB internet.

I stoped my Orange Sim Monthly before I used it. I then registerd the sim they sent with phone. I then called into Tesco and paid the £15 for Tesco Sim only which was a far better deal than orange. So I got two mobile numbers on this SF now. :)

You can happily use the same type of email services you use on your PC.

The email addon they are offering is the ability to use their servers to push email directly to you. Something most people don't need.

Orange keeps pushing Google mail at me in order to connect. Phone refuses to connect on internet. I keep dissableing the Wi-Fi connection as it fails to connect via that. Been trying G2 and that's failing as well. pops up with "connect to wi-fi"
I am with Tesco internet as orange not got the deal i can afford for internet. phone is unlocked. Was wondering if this (link) http://www.google.com/mobile/android/privacy-temp.html is the problem. Orange has intergrated google into it's phone. Must I mod this San Fransisco in order to get it to connect via other internet providers or is there a way of doing that now. Been trying to connect all night until 6.00am this morning, still trying and failing dissmally.

Google accounts are built into android. An account is required for certain things. However, it has nothing to with connecting to the internet.

What's G2?

To use Tesco Mobile internet you need the correct APN settings.

Any idea as to what the APN settings are ? i take it that I must do this manually. ?
Please excuse my dullness, but Android phones are very new to me. Not ever heard of APN until yesterday. Up until now i've just used a normal mobile which was a million times easier. LOL
You either connect via G2/G3 or Wi-fi (if any other way i don't know)
I click on Market in my phone so that I can download an application straight to the phone, but it keeps takeing me to a signe in to google account of which I can't do because I can't connect to internet. Golly, i wonder if others get same probs as me, or is it only me :) Cheers.

P.S-- If you know how to install an application into my mobile after I've downloaded it n put on desktop, PLEASE do tell.

APN settings are required by all phones (android and nonandroid) to access the internet.

Try this:

Tesco Mobile (uses the O2 network)
APN: prepay.tesco-mobile.com
Username: tescowap
Password: password

Why can't you connect to the internet via wifi? It should work fine through that. You sure you've set it up okay?

Hi ghost Many Thanks to you and the others for your kind help--Appreciated a lot.
My m8 had some free time so got me up and running via home phone. now Fixed.
My problem was my router key number. i had an extra two digits at the start that should not of been there. How I did that I don't know. Wrote it wrong in my book. Useing Wi-fi at home as thats FREE. Yet to try via G2 or g3. Even downloaded 3 free apps to phone.
No wonder older people like me prefer an easy straight forward mobile. LOL
Many Thanks. Take Care.

P.S-- Will look inside phone later to see if I can find where that APN is. If I can't find I'll be back..LOL :)

Ordered 2 yesterday, my Mum is a PAYG customer, so bought one for my brother and got one for myself just to muck about with, £81 each, so not too bad at all really!

ghost--All sorted. Fixed and working a treat. Thank You for those APN settings.
What a relief.
I can pull PC's apart, fix em up, sort out viruses etc., but these new mobile Androids are different. LOL A whole new world.
Cheers.

TimBrad--You both will like this phone. It's a Good un.

RussD it's 2g and 3g, you had the number and letter(g) the wrong way around which is what confused ghost(initially had me confused as well).

am thinking about getting this phone for my mum but she's clueless when it comes to most gadgets, mobile, pcs etc, was hard enough getting her used to the older mobiles(sms, calculator etc). she has a very old tarrif(so will need to gt a 3g sim) on orange back when they used to offer tarrif matching of other networks, doesn't have a data plan so will get expensive if she uses it out of the house.

Well, I've downloaded Apps, used the apps, deleted some apps. Some apps froze on me phone and one played up rotten. Not used it much for talking to anyone yet. LOL :)
Still playing around with it via Wi-fi. not used the 2g yet, but will try it tomorrow.
It takes a little while to get into these Android phones.

fowler002--how old is your mum ? I'm 63 and find some things long and laborious on these phones, so your mum might only want a simple mobile. Let her try your phone to see how she likes it.

it'll be her 55th birthday in 3weeks, my dad almost gave her his iphone 3g when he upgraded to the iphone 4 but ended up giving it to my sister instead.
she's currently has the sony erricson w880i, as I mentioned before she can only really use the basic features on it(call, text etc).

thinking of getting this as her birthday present so will give orange a call and see if they'll do it for £79 like others have reported on here, if they say £110 then wouldn't bother.
