San Giorgio Maggiore, Venice

I think the light, as you have already said yourself lets it down.

When I was in Venice, I quickly realised that for the best photos, you really need to take advantage of the Golden Hour. Given that its summer and that you were up the Campanile, it would have been long past that, as you need to get up pretty early, for what 5am? But it looks like it was a miserable day anyway. Otherwise you have the hour before sunset, but being Venice, its incredibly busy with people.

This is not the best photo I took while I was is in Venice, but you can see what a difference that final sunshine of the day makes to the lighting on the building.

Thanks for the feedback guys, the B&W conversion does work but it's still a little flat so I left the colour in for that classic venice red brick and church combination.

I know exactly what your saying about the golden hours, it was shot back in April so we didn't miss it by that much but still by enough! My holidays aren't really about the photography so I have to grab what I can which means sometimes I get the golden hours shots an sometimes I don't!
