Hi all,

I don't think I've seen this posted before and hopefully will make a decent subjecy for discussion.

I am currently playing through Farcry 2, well, I am about 2 hours into playing and I've decided that I don't really enjoy sandbox games. I wasn't too keen on oblivion either.

I don't know, perhaps its just my age but I love a good storyline and sandbox games don't really seem to pull you in the same. Deus Ex was great, it had an amazing story, it was a linear game with set objectives but gave you 2 or 3 different ways of achieving them.

Plus I find that I am always worried in case I miss something in a sandbox game, a really good weapon or piece of armour that could greatly help me down the line.

Farcry 2 for instance just kind of led you for the first 30 mins and then its just a case of "here is this huge map, do something!"

Is it just me that isn't keen on them?

I like them just as much as heavily scripted linear ones tobh, although I agree about being worried about missing something.

I'm not really a fan. Far Cry & the like don't really hold my interest.

The games I have really enjoyed recently have been the LEGO games (Star Wars/Indy, need to get Batman) and the Call Of Duty games. All really scripted/linear, but have held my attention from start to finish.

Far Cry was uninstalled after not very long at all!

GrandTheft Auto is the DADY of sandbox games :) I Love them :)

From what i played in stalker i loved it.

Battlefield 2 and 2142 are super sandbox AND LOVED them 2 bits

farcry 2 sucks compared to them :(

Depends on the how its executed.

Yet to play Far Cry 2 (tis downloading)
I love games where you can approach your goal any way you like, Grand Theft Auto, Crysis, but you don't feel lost.

Oblivion made me feel all lost and confused and i didn't enjoy it much.

Half Life 2, CoD4, are two examples of linear games that are brilliant.
