Just had our lounge re plastered after gutting it. The finish is awful trowel marks, lumpy bits etc

getting the bloke back to fix it is not an option as I don't want the useless tit back in my house

whats the best way to smooth them off? and try and remedy the problem?

Is it just a case of a fine sandpaper and taking my time?

my cousin (plasterer) did my house recently, its very messy and very labour intensive, it will now be baked so its going to be hard.

He had a long handled sander(manual) with 120 grit sheets on it, and rubbed it smooth, it made a heck of a lot of dust and he was hard at it for a while but the finish was perfect

edit

was one of these, youtube the technique (there is one) its like a sweeping of the wall.

Manual sander will give you the best finish, but very labour intensive, electric sander is just as good but harder to make the finish even and you can easily make it worse.

Oh and very dusty!

Ha! I've patched up some of the plaster in my new house. I did a terrible job in terms of getting a smooth finish :p

I'll try and get mine a but nicer with a bit of sanding. Luckily its only a few small areas.

Had a similar problem after a poor plasterer butchered a room in our house, spent a lot of time with quick drying filler and mixed grit sandpaper it made a lot of dust but got the finish I wanted in the end.

ITS A ****IN PAIN IN THE ASS

had my front room done couple of years ago...was as terrible finish

so i sanded and i sanded and sanded...then when i painted it i had super smooth patches in some places and texture in others.... gave up in the end....most people wont notice

but.. im one of those if u know its there., everytime u walk into the room u look at it

I have used an electric sheet sander with a vacuum attached to the sander, not very much dust gets loose but it us easy to sand off too much!
I feel your pain as a good plasterer is very hard to find

Forget the sandpaper.

Recently been touching up some plaster work myself with a hand sander and some sanding mesh and it worked brilliantly!...but as already mentioned it's a messy job!

I just used these from Toolstation, but there's obviously better quality stuff out there if you feel you need it.

...Don't skimp on the paint when it comes to painting though.
